Boston University is offering a 120k scholarship, and Cornell a 90k scholarship. I am hoping to go to Texas afterwards, and I'm ok with Big Law. Which would you choose?

30k scholarship difference translates to almost zero in overall cost of attendance, because the cost of living in Ithaca is much cheaper. Cornell and no-brainer.

Thanks everyone! That's where I was leaning and just wanted to be sure that I wasn't making a mistake.

90k from Cornell still leaves a lot of money since tutition is essential 60k a year. That'll leave you roughly 180-200k in the hole. You'd have to be very content with NYC biglaw for a few years. If you got that 90k with a 164/4.0 or so, I'd sit out and retake.
Also, why didn't you apply to UT? Don't see Cornell holding up great weight outside of New York. Boston U makes zero sense with the goal to go to Texas.

If OP wanted biglaw Boston after graduating would Cornell still be the better choice?

I had similar offers (substitute BC in for BU) a couple years ago and wanted Boston biglaw; the gist of feedback was mostly don't go, or if you must, then Cornell. I was also okay with taking NYC biglaw. If OP wants Texas and everything else is way behind that, then he/she should sit out the cycle or go to UT cheap.

Scholarship amounts are very close. I had the same choice and, if Cornell were only 30K more, I def would have chosen Cornell. For me, the difference was more like 90K, which made it a pretty easy choice for BU.

i think that people lose sight of the fact that lateralling back into preferable jobs in a smaller market is realistic coming from NYC biglaw if you have the ties. If youre from Houston, go to Cornell, do corporate stuff in NYC for a few years, im sure getting back to Houston is not exceedingly difficult.

If you want to work in Texas, do not go to BU. Especially if you are gunning for big law, as BU will do you no favors. Did you apply to UT? If you want to work in Texas, UT is usually the way to go if you have in-state tuition.

Can you post how much the actual COA to you will be? I can't calculate the cost for you. Just posting scholarship numbers isn't enough.

90k scholarship at Cornell in the 2013/14 cycle still would've left me 170k in debt, based on Georgetown's COA calculator.

If you want Texas, imo, there is only one choice. Unless you are in at HYS or want to spend the 3 years vacationing.

If you do want a vacation I would not recommend Ithaca.
