Choosing a Law School in the Midwest

Hello everyone!

When choosing what law schools to apply to I chose law schools near Cincinnati because I own a house and didn't want my fiance to quit her job that she loves.

I applied to the following schools:

University of Cincinnati -Full tuition scholarship
University of Kentucky- Full tuition plus 13k
Indiana University- $75k scholarship which accounts for half tuition since I'm out of state.
Case Western Reserve- Hugo Grotius Fellowship which accounts for Full tuition and a stipend.
Ohio State- Application Status "still under review"...

Right now I think I have narrowed it down to Case Western Reserve and Indiana University (this very well may change once I hear back from OSU). The reason I am leaning towards CWRU is obviously the money but also the fact that I ultimately want to work conducting counter-terrorism work (I have a masters in Criminal Justice, and am in the process of becoming fluent in Arabic). They are ranked 11th in international law, have a terrorism research center, and have a very unique study abroad program. This includes specialized placement in the federal prosecutors office, and really anything specific to what you want to do.

I am wondering what your opinions are on this. Any input and/or suggestions are appreciated.

(LSAT 162, GPA 3.7) I'm from OHIO and plan on staying in OHIO unless I'm needed to relocate for my job.

Northwestern might give you a better shot at the type of law you want to do.

Thank you and sorry I didn't have my academic information listed before. I don't think I could get into Northwestern unfortunately.

Counter terrorism work may be a very unlikely outcome. You'll need to find concrete examples of others having done the same, and you'll need to find a realistic and specific path to getting there with a law degree from CWRU. It would seem to me the most likely route to counter terrorism work is with a defense contractor, with a more specific degree that is not a law degree. Perhaps look into SIGINT.

The typical advice is to only go to law school if you want to be a lawyer and only if your school has good legal employment placement, because non-legal employment is a bit of a myth with a law degree.
