Was trying to figure out a way to simplify all of this. Let's put it into a perspective we're familiar with.
If the T14 schools were pokemon, they would be...

Why do you put Chicago as Moltres? I would argue that Moltres is the weakest of the three, but Chicago is not the weakest law school of the three.

Disagree. These are informative analogies for 0Ls. For example, Michigan's class of 2018 is 50% Male and 50% female. In addition, it is a relatively impotent T-14. Similarly, the gender ratio for Metapod is 50-50. Moreover, it's one weakest pokemon.

There was rationale that went into these.

HYS as the top three law schools receive the top three pokemon. Harvard, with the most pretige/reputation, is Mewtwo, the most sought-after pokemon in the game. Yale is Mew because it has similar prestige to Mewtwo (Harvard), but is much more difficult to get your hands on. If you play the game right (have the right numbers), everyone has a shot at Mewtwo (or JS1). But to catch Mew (Yale), it's basically a secret/luck. Stanford is Dragonite because it's not quite as sought-after as Mew or Mewtwo, but the next best Pokemon and could definitely beat out Mew/Mewtwo in a battle with the right moves.

The next three schools, CCN the legendary birds, are the next three most sought-after pokemon. NYU and Columbia are Moltres and Articuno because they are direct competitors in NYC (fire/ice). Chicago is Zapdos because it consistently ranks among the top of the three.

Penn is Alakazam because it focuses on GPA/academics, and Alakazam is very smart. Also one of the best pokemon.

The rest are arguably the next best pokemon in the game, divvied up based on strengths and weaknesses.

But ultimately, folks, the pokemon (degree) can only get you so far. A large part of your future success will depend on the TMs/HMs you teach your pokemon (the classes you take) and the moves you make during play (networking/career moves in life).

Cornell = Scyther because it looks better on a resume than it actually performs for job placement.
Northwestern = Snorlax because it's unique in its professional requirements (requires pokeflute/boring desk job)
Michigan is the worst of the evolved starters. It's a fine choice, but not super impressive.
Duke = Alakazam. Not considered "rare", but it is really strong and can help you win career victories.
Berkeley = Chansey. Who knows when it will appear? Also you have to throw the right bait/stones at it to have a chance.
Penn and UVA are Charizard and Blastoise. A step up from Michigan and also elite state schools.
NYU is Porygon because it's expensive as balls. Ain't no one got coins for that.
Chicago and Columbia are the two strongest legendary birds. Roughly equivalent, but Chicago gets freezing cold and Manhattan is an electric city.

I'm gonna have to agree. This legitimately shook some of my beliefs up.

Haha I like your rationale.

Though I feel like Kabuto is too easy to obtain. The reason I picked Mew is that in the blue/red games you have to do some cheat at exactly the right time in order to find Mew. So, 1.) you have to know the secret, and 2.) your timing has to be just right. If you're half way through the game and you realize you want Mew, too late, not even a super high LSAT can help you now.

You basically have to start the game knowing you want Mew, just as you would need to start as a freshman undergraduate preparing to have the highest GPA possible knowing that you're aiming for Yale.
