Top Law Schools

I'm going to say this bluntly, because I need to be direct: don't do it. Some may disagree with me, but someone who gets 0 financial aid has a lower than 30% chance of getting Big Law. Despite what some people may say, there is some correlation between LSAT/undergrad GPA and how you do in law school. Every GW Presidential Merit Scholar that I know, including myself, ended up with a big law job if they wanted it, and I'm sure some sort of correlation of likelihood of big law continues as you down the merit aid scale.

Retake and go for free, or at least retake and pay full tuition at a better school w/ better big law placement.

Also, top third is no guarantee to get biglaw at gw. There are going to be URMs and those with IP backgrounds that will snag those limited biglaw gigs despite being outside the top third.

Don't do it. Definitely retake and go somewhere you can get biglaw from median.

I was top 1/3 at biglaw and had to hustle like fuck. I knew a top 2% with only one offer. Font go here

Thanks for the response. Makes sense what you say. I have excuses as to why I didn't do well in my gpa (not so much with my lsat, which is mid 160s and I actually studied), so I feel that if push comes to shove I would be able to do well. But history is not in my favor, so it is possibly a dumb argument.

It's good to have that confidence, and you shouldn't let anything stop you from having it, but if you can do better on the LSAT then you'd save a lot of money and stress. Stress may be the more important thing to think about in your situation. Your grandfather's money is still partly your money, because it's going to either benefit you or people you presumably care about. It isn't really free and you probably won't feel it was free.

Even if you win, you're going to have to go through life knowing your grandpa did you a humongous solid. If you ever forget to call him over the holidays or send a card, he's going to shove this whole paying for law school thing in your face. In 10 years ago you this is going to come up in front of your children who will know your grandpa as the guy who paid for daddy to go to law school. This is also a cost to consider.
