I don't think prestige is generally as important, no - it will be more about your experience. My impression is that most ASA/ADA positions will favor local & experienced, especially someone who has worked in that office already, over prestige just for the sake of prestige. It can vary depending on where you are, I would imagine.

Clerkships are a little different - for state
COA and SSC, they will certainly hire out of the local schools, but you will need good grades (and depending on the state, you could face T14 competition for the SSC clerkships; there school prestige tends to matter).

And you will likely be somewhat limited to your law school's state or those immediately surrounding (e.g. if you want to be an ADA in North Carolina, UNC for free is great, but if you go to UNC don't expect to be able to get a state clerkship/ADA gig in Texas). So think about where you want to be. People do move around, but it's an additional hurdle.

The only issue is if you change your mind and want to do something that does value prestige more.

I'm pursuing prosecution and I was an intern at my city's DA Office this past summer. They really favor local graduates. The whole office is full of them.
