Any information from people who have applied to Michigan State or are attending/attended MSU?

That's a pretty broad question. What are you trying to find out?

Thanks for that link!
I guess I'm just interested if anyone has attended MSU Law or heard anything particularly good/bad about it. I'm looking for different law schools outside of the Pennsylvania and New York region to apply to. They recently sent me some information and I wanted to investigate.

I mean, it's a really regional school with poor employment numbers. To the extent anyone should go there, it should be native Michiganians going for free, not people from PA/NY.

MSU has a dual (US/Canadian) law degree program. Requires 4, instead of 3, years. Joint program is with Ottawa--which is a beautiful city. Employment stats from MSU are not good, however. May be worth attending on a full tuition scholarship if you have assured employment after law school.

What are your numbers? Where are your ties? Where do you want to practice? What types of jobs are you interested in? Those questions should determine where you apply.
Don't go to MSU.

Thanks for the help! My numbers are 159/3.63 and I'm not 100% what area I want to go in to. I'm still learning about this forum and how to use it (effectively).

One of my best friends and college roommates went to MSU (we are all from Michigan) and just graduated. He is almost for sure top 10% in his class and was K-JD. From what I know those with ties to the area or people who were able to establish ties (like his gf) are faring ok. He has gotten a couple offers but he turned them down.
I think MSU is a decent choice if you can get good scholarship numbers, are dead set on going, and will not retake the LSAT, as you should have limited debt. Back in 2011 I applied there with close to your numbers and got a 75% scholarship.
I will say though if you haven't taken all 3 LSAT attempts to do so.

Haha thanks -- we are very proud to be Michiganders and if you live anywhere near the midwest to be 100% Pure Michigan (thank you enhanced state advertising budget)
Anyhow OP you should really retake as much as I love the state of Michigan and the rather awesome MSU tailgates (did go to my buddy with his law schools friends to one last year, was a blast) you should be shooting your sights higher. Unless of course you are fine with MSU's rather poor median employment track record and have at least close to a full ride

Thank you to everybody who responded! For now I'll hold off on MSU. I will be ranking my top choices for law schools and sending out the application on October 1st or as close to that date as possible. With any time after and if I can receive a fee waiver, I might then apply to a law school like MSU.

I can't think of a scenario in which attending MSU law makes sense. None. Any scholarship offer you can get from them you can probably also get from Wayne State, which is a better school.

While I certainly don't think going to MSU is a good choice in 95% of circumstances, it is a far better choice in the majority of situations than Wayne State IMO.

Yeah, go run and look at their respective job numbers over the past 3 years and tell me what, if anything, MSU law does better than Wayne.
Or you could go read up on the threads from this site talking about the Detroit market, and the job outcomes for grads from the two law schools.
Michigan State law school is a turd. Wayne State law isn't much better, but it is better in pretty much every category. And its cheaper.

I've heard the same in Michigan

Admittedly I am originally from western Michigan so there aren't many Wayne State grads around and I have never bothered to run their numbers since anybody pretty much has to be in the top 10% to stand any shot at anything.

I went to MSU for undergrad. I love that school to death. I wouldn't go to the law school even for free. It's still a young law school and has a ways to go until it matches the caliber of their other graduate programs. Steer clear for now.

Both Michiganian and Michigander are correct - there's no official term. "Michigander" was originally used as an insult in the mid-19th century, combining the words "Michigan" and "gander" (i.e.: Michigan goose). Obviously it has since lost that connotation, and both Michiganian and Michigander are used commonly.
