Need help on T3 / T4 Schools.

Hello everyone.

I got offers from few T3/T4 schools all with partial scholarships.

1. Mississippi College School of Law -
2. Oklahoma City Law
3. Florida Coastal Law - (FL)
5. Toledo Collge of Law (OH)
6. Golden Gate Law (CA)
8. St. Mary's University Schoool of Law (TX)

Waitlisted on Creighton Law (in Omaha)

I understand. None of them look good at all. The more i search in this forum, the more i get depressed.
Seems like the correct answer is to retake LSAT and try on next cycle.

I am flying over from Canada. which means i have no regional ties at all. Yea. things are getting worse here. :|

Say i were to attend any of above law schools this year.
My little research tells me Toledo Law is less worse (?) than the other schools listed. (excluding Creighton which is still..T3  )

Anyways, I am actually leaning toward Teledo right now. Due to its cost of attendance + better US News rank than the other.

Other than retaking the LSAT and IF I MUST choose ONE. which school should i go to ???
Should i go to the one ending up with the lowest debt ????

I know my question sounds odd but i am actually serious about this.

I apprecieate your help !!!

1. What was your LSAT score and GPA?
2. Why aren't you looking at Canadian law schools?
3. What are your career goals? We need to know this to know if your goal is achievable or realistic from a given school.
4. Where do you want to live and practice? Going to any of these schools will likely limit you to that region, assuming you manage to get a legal job at all.
Other than retaking the LSAT and IF I MUST choose ONE. which school should i go to ???
I reject the basic premise of your question.

#4 or #7 is the way to go if you insist on not retaking the LSAT.

1. Size of the legal market compare to canada (more job opportunities if there is one.)

2. Canada is a great country. But i want to study in the states. :(

1. 158 and 3.0. philosophy major. :(

2. Size of the legal market compare to canada (more job opportunities in states if there is one.)

3. IP / patent lawyer. Would be just happy if i could work in a small, decent firm with 10~20 attorneys

4. No specific region in mind. I have only visited states few times. I can pretty much stay happy if the place has formidable size of legal market. I am fully aware that going to schools i have listed above will strictly limit myself to work in local. That being said, i believe legal market size of Ohio is big enough .

# I get it. Going to law school is not like signing up for few pilates sessions. I may not have specializations in mind as much as others but one thing for sure, i want to learn and possibly practice law.

Thanks for the reply by the way.

Philosophy majors do second-best on the LSAT of any major. A 158 is not good enough. You should retake the LSAT.

My feeling is that it would be very difficult to get an IP/patent job from any of the law schools you listed. Particularly if you don't have a hard science or engineering background.

I'm not sure if the legal markets where these schools are located are actually any larger than the relevant legal markets in Canada.

I actually considered OCU for a little while and I'm not recommending you go there, but I think you would have a better shot at finding some sort of legal job there than at Toledo. 64 out of Toledo's 123 grads in 2014 got full-time long-term bar passage required jobs. Almost half the class didn't get a job as a lawyer. Again, not recommending you choose any of the options you have now. You need to retake. But the US News ranking is meaningless. The cost of attendance, the employment statistics, and the location of the school are what matters.

Also, I never thought I'd hear say someone say they liked Toledo because of its comparatively higher US News ranking.

If you are planning to work in Canada, why not go to Western Michigan? That's the standard route for Canadian people who want to go to law school.

getting into law school in Canada is nearly impossible. You should probably learn what you are talking about before opening your mouth.

Didn't realize Canadian law schools were so competitive, but this doesn't sound like a thing. Telling someone to go to Cooley is just cruel.

Don't go unless you have signed a contract with someone guaranteeing you a job upon graduation.

Assuming that's not the case, don't go.

I know Cooley and why it is notorious for. But i did not know that is a standard route for Canadian ppl. Just curious, why go to Cooley if gonna study in Canada ?? And you are right. Candian Law schools are competitive.

I'm pretty sure there are more Canadians at Western Michigan than non-Michiganders. I jsut meant it is your best route to become a lawyer because your route to a lawyer probably involves a career in Canada as a visa holder and no chance at biglaw. Figured people had heard of it in Canada at this point.

Intersting story. By the way, i have no plans to work in Canada. I will do some research on Cooley as well. Thanks.

Don't go to Cooley. Retake the LSAT and figure out where in the US you want to live and work, then target strong regional schools in those markets.

Hitting T2 will at least make legal employment likely for you. From T3/T4 you are facing an uphill battle.

I don't even think this is true.

OP is a philosophy major that wants IP, and is looking at regional schools where (s)he has no ties

Going to a T2 won't solve these problems

also a visa holder that only big firms usually support.
