curious if others think that NYU with a 45k scholarship is worth the remaining price. I'll be financing mostly with loans, and would potentially like to clerk/big law and very interested in intl. law. Out of the schools I've been accepted to, NYU is by far my favorite option, but curious what people think about the price here.

I voted no. Just go to Cornell for way cheaper.
What do you mean by intl. law? If you mean international law, what do you mean by international law?

A resounding no.
Post history shows you have over 150k to at least 3 other t14s.
So to reiterate, no.

You have scholarship offers of $165,000 from Northwestern, $150,000 from Michigan & $150,000 from Cornell, so I'm not sure as to why you are considering $45,000 from NYU. I think that your poll needs to be revised to reflect all 4 scholarship offers.

If these are accurate numbers, I don't think this even needs a thread. You could literally go to any of the other schools without making any objectively bad choice. I can't believe you're really considering NYU here.

Good catch
Yeah, whatever is the cheapest of those options. Although I'd probably weigh geographic/personal preference somewhat. But I'd pretty much follow the money. Any of those schools is totally sufficient for big law, no reason to pay a buttload more just to end up in the same exact place.

Especially so since OP plans to finance NYU with loans.

Yes, all of that is accurate. However, I just wanted to evaluate other opinions as I was not sure if a t-6 ranked school mattered significantly more than $$$ at a lower ranked t14

If NYU tripled the scholarship offer to $105,000, then it would be a feasible & reasonable option in light of your other offers, in my opinion.
P.S. Remember, living costs in Manhattan greatly exceed those in Ithaca & Ann Arbor.

someone posted the stats somewhere about the difference of placement by % in like v20s amongst the T14, and atleast Cornell and NYU were extremely similar in placement. The BL/FC %s are almost identical too (except for PI placement, which NYU blows Cornell out of the water in). There's no way that the luxury (lol) of living in NYC is worth 100k. no way
If NYU is like a $50k diffference in cost or less than like yeah maybe sure w/e but no way is it worth more than that against any of the other schools you have offers from (except maybe Mich. and even then, not much more)

No way in hell
If you have 100k more from t14 schools go there
Even if you had no other t14 offers do anything rather than nyu at that price
Literally, selling everything you own and betting it all on black with one spin of the roulette wheel would be a much much better decision

This is quite the emphatic response...I get debt aversion, but what makes you so passionate about this?

crunch the numbers + read up on the average BL attrition rate and I mean its hyperbole but not by much
and actually, only the last line is really...i pretty much agree with everything else

No, no it wouldn't. If OP did that, he would have a less than 50% chance of doubling his life savings. But NYU gives you a much better than 50% chance at a positive outcome.

i don't think in a vacuum in this market this decision is ruinous, but in context, it's totally unnecessary.

agree with the zeitgeist here
$45k total at nyu is still gonna run you close to $300k at repayment, which is way too high a number for me, regardless of school quality/odds/goals/whatever

This would be a terrible decision, especially considering your other offers.

Suppose NYU with $15,000 per year were OP's only choice.
How would you all vote?

How would you negotiate with zero leverage, besides by reciting the essential points that you've already raised in your LOCI and FAFSA/Need Access Special Circumstances?

Offer to enroll if the scholarship is increased by a stated percentage or sit-out until next cycle.
