Yale at #5. That actually seems fair considering the point of this list is to rank schools based on legal job placement.

Based on the scoring results as calculated by Above The Law, the top 5 (Harvard, Stanford, Chicago, Penn & Yale) all deserve top billing. Yale fell to number 5 due to decreased federal clerkship placements. Great to see Chicago get recognition as a top 3.
USC did not make the list which ranks only the top 50 law schools.
Expect a University of Akron press release. Congratulations to Akron.
Appears that Villanova is doing a great job at rehabilitating itself.
New Mexico did well not because of biglaw & federal clerkship placement, but due to overall placement numbers combined with a very low cost of attendance.

Based on the closeness of scores, seems reasonable to refer to the "top 10 law schools", rather than a "top 14". The score drop from #10 to #11 was the first drop of more than one full point between consecutive schools on this list.
Although the rankings look great & are based on very important factors, my best guess is that few will be transferring from USC to Akron.

Does anyone think that % of federal sitting judges is an important (or representative) factor? And who could possibly think that % SCOTUS clerks is a better measure of elite outcomes than % Article III? And, correct me if I'm wrong, but these rankings account for full-cost COA but not for scholarships or--probably most relevant--average indebtedness on graduation.
I think the results are, with several exceptions (see, e.g., USC), consistent with common sense. The methodology behind the results is, on the other hand, totally bunk. Junk in, junk out. The fact that the junk out in this case doesn't seem shockingly wrong doesn't make the rankings any less of a joke.

Though I recognize the flaw in the rankings, is there nonetheless more credence lent to the idea of penn being much closer to the t6 then apart from it?

This was a fun year for ATL. Hopefully it at least gets a few people to ask why USNWR is different and what matters to them and then get them thinking about their options before they do something too foolish.

@abl: My reading of the factors used in ATL's rankings seems to be a bit different than your posted understanding. Percentage of federal law clerk placement & NLJ 250 law firm placement counts for 30%, whereas sitting judges comprise a portion (along with SCOTUS clerkships) of a 7.5% category. Additionally, this 7.5% category is adjusted to account for the size of the law school.

Why is that? Lower lsat scores? Philly big law pays well and is growing. the geographical areas around it too are growing.
