I'm still trying to negotiate an increase in scholarship from both schools. Will it be wise to double deposit to gain some more time?

Yeah, I'd double deposit unless it's clearly and enforceably forbidden. If it results in any more scholarship money it'll certainly be worth it.

Definitely worth double depositing. These are some nice options, hopefully you can get a scholarship boost from NYU out of it. Good luck!


Btw, I voted NYU for 55k more than GULC, but if GULC ups your offer and NYU doesn't, that could change things.

Don't double deposit. Accepting the scholarship requires you to submit a statement of intent to register certifying that you've withdrawn from all other schools you've been accepted to.

Lying about that is a terrible idea. As far as "enforceability," they can take away your scholarship, rescind your offer of admission, or report you to the ABA. It's not worth it to mess around.

Is that on the NYU side? I don't think the GULC scholarships require withdrawal.

I checked the Georgetown intent to enroll form and it does not require to withdraw from all other schools.

NYU doesn't have that though. Accepting the scholarship requires committing to attend.

Wow, I though the poll response was going to be closer. NYU is taking a big lead.
Regarding the double deposit, this is what I found in the LSAC website.

After April 1, except under binding early decision plans, every
applicant should be free to accept a new offer from a law
school even though a scholarship has been accepted,
a deposit has been paid, or a commitment has been made to
another school. To provide applicants with an uncoerced
choice among various law schools, no excessive
nonrefundable deposit should be required solely to maintain
a place in the class. Beginning on May 15 of each year, law
schools that participate in the Commitment Overlap Service
will be provided with information concerning all enrollment
commitments to any law school made by those applicants
who have indicated an intention to enroll in that school’s
entering class. A law school should clearly communicate its
policies on multiple enrollment commitments upon admission.

Your coa seem a bit off to me, but I might just be bad at math.

Do you have any specific career goals? Simply working on the east coast is not a career goal, at least I would hope. If you had some specific fields in mind, that could certainly influence which school is the better choice for you.

Thanks for your answer, Regarding the COA, I'm considering also around 8K extra a year of income. (4K external scholarship that I have, 3K parent contribution, 1K saving). I enter all the information in one of the calculator ,and for Georgetown after interest,loan origination etc. The total COA was around 110K.

Regarding my career goal, Ultimately, I would like to end up with a PI career, but some attorneys that I have met, some of them from Georgetown, advised me that I should try to go Big Law first and then move to PI. Some others said that is better to get PI experience and then go into Big law. So I'm still weighting my options.

GULC can't compete with NYU when it comes to PI opportunities. So if thats the route you want to go, its probably worth the cost differential. And the door to biglaw would be wide open out of NYU should you decide to go that route instead.

If the final cost differential is only 55k then it's NYU by a long mile. There is literally nothing GULC does that NYU can't do twice as well. And this is coming from a current GULC student.

NYU places better in both Biglaw and PI, but you have to ask yourself how much is that worth to you.

This is a tough spread. I'm tempted to still call it for NYU just because I'll take that heavily added certainty of a good outcome for $65K and you'll incur debt either way.

A 20 to 25 percentage point higher chance of getting biglaw or similar is absolutely worth an extra 65k plus interest, unless you're sure you don't want that kind of job, in which case take the cheaper school.

Update...i was denied a scholarship increase at NYU. I have not heard back from Georgetown yet. I'm leaning toward NYU. I will make my deposit today and probably will withdraw from Georgetown. Any last minute advice?

Count your blessings. Good cycle. NYU is the right choice. It's worth the 55k.
