UVA v. Duke ($) v. Mich ($$)

UVA is my first choice - the lack of any money from them has been really disappointing. I've tried negotiating but to no avail.

Anyway...

UVA = $222,000 debt at grad
Duke = $120,000 debt at grad
Michigan = $120,000 total debt

My parents have offered to pay my living expenses. I'm taking out loans to cover tuition/fees/books.

WHAT SHOULD I DOOOOOOOO? thanks

Duke. Though I hear GW is TCR for a future in politics.

I'm guessing you want to work in the South?

Your debt at graduation already factors in both scholarships and the fact your parents are paying for living expenses?

I'd say pick between Michigan and Duke (probably Duke if your ties are already all south). UVA def not worth an extra $60,000 (or $80,000) in debt unless there's some reason you really prefer it.

Duke Is your best option but hard to recommend at that price

This is tough. Since you seem pretty South-focused, of the three I say Duke. But, really, I think you'd be better off had you applied to some more regionals like UT & Vandy. For that reason, if at all possible, I would suggest sitting out and exploring those options next cycle. If you're dead-set on going this cycle, I say Duke and wish you good luck.

Duke! Wow such an easy choice. Michigan might not even be a T14 by the time you graduate.

It sounds like you want to make good money, do PI/government work, and live in a warm climate. These three goals simply don't work all that well together.

And to be honest, it sounds like you don't really know what you're trying to do. Clerking is something you do if the right opportunity strikes, its not something worth thinking a ton about when picking schools - because its a one year job. Litigation and then government/PI ... what kind of government/PI? Do you know?

I'm really worried that you're about to spend a lot of money (both yours and your parents) because you think law is going to give you an interesting career that pays good money, with the geographic flexibility to live wherever you want. That's not realistic.
