When the usnwr law school rankings debuted in 1987, UCLA was ranked #14. Seriously.
Then, TPTB got together. If UCLA was in the top 14, they reasoned, the usnwr rankings would have no legitimacy. So now it's in the unswr bylaws that UCLA can be ranked no higher than #15. Sorry.

I'm not sure legitimacy is much of a concern...they keep GULC around (totally kidding that might have been a little sour grapes for getting wait listed there).

The schools in the T14 have more prestige than all the schools below them and they do a better job of placing their grads into desireable jobs. I don't think either of those things are changing any time soon, so I doubt any school ever truly "cracks" the T14 unless it's a fleeting thing like UT a few years ago.

but even if UCLA gets into the 14th spot ('ever' again). that will not place them in the 'T14', which is really 14 schools that at one time were in the top 10 of USNews. Thus, UC Los Angeles will have to crack the T10 to become a member of the new 'T15'.

Haha in all seriousness though, retake would never happen for me. I am at UCLA for free and I want to work in Los Angeles. On top of that I do not have to move my family anywhere and still get to keep free babysitting from my parents. UCLA was winning the application cycle game for me. I did initially want somewhere higher ranked but for my goals, my family, and my finance situation this truly was a perfect outcome. I should have known posting this on TLS would result in UCLA bashing instead of people cheering for it. Still fun, still love the feedback.
