UCLA and basically all top schools in Cali (Berkely, USC, Stanford) give much more weight to your GPA than others.
UCLA law isn't that big but it's conversely quite desirable for a very large number of applicants from the largest state or who want to work in/move to that largest state. It's also the "best" school in its own market (southern california). So it can be more selective that its *ranking* would suggest.
