PAYE only works if it stays. Also doesn't account for the tax bomb.bearsfan23 wrote:(is still wrong)Elston Gunn wrote:(has never heard of interest or origination fees)muskies970 wrote:it does not cost $108,000 a year to attend Columbia good try though
There are like 3 posters on TLS that actually understand financial aid/loans.
Origination fees are taken out of the base of the loan itself, not added on. Also, given that PAYE exists, there is ZERO reason to allow interest to accrue like that, unless you just enjoy debt or something.
Never taken out a student loan, but that sounds absurdly wrong. The origination fee is a fee, no? As in is added to the loan? Why would a school reduce their tuition bc someone was paying for it with loaned money?bearsfan23 wrote:(is still wrong)Elston Gunn wrote:(has never heard of interest or origination fees)muskies970 wrote:it does not cost $108,000 a year to attend Columbia good try though

I didn't fact-check OP, but LST says it's $313K at repayment. Are you planning on paying off the interest during law school? You're right about how the origination fees are taken out, but they're still part of the cost.bearsfan23 wrote:(is still wrong)Elston Gunn wrote:(has never heard of interest or origination fees)muskies970 wrote:it does not cost $108,000 a year to attend Columbia good try though

LST hasn't updated their numbers yet. They're still using tuition estimates for current 1Ls.Elston Gunn wrote:I didn't fact-check OP, but LST says it's $313K at repayment.
