Top Law Schools

Let's start the new year off with a bang! I'm going to law school next fall even if only to try it out. I have a full tuition scholarship to Iowa, $40k to Colorado, and none of the other schools I applied to are factors. I did apply to the lower T14, but I think I wasted my time applying because I'm not a high-end applicant and I'll only be burdened with insurmountable debt if I get in. The only reason I'd consider them is because I might need every advantage I can get since I'm unsure how I'll do in school or how I'll interview.


Is Iowa clearly the choice? I really like CU and I'm enthralled by the mystique of the Mountain West. I'm from the Mid-Atlantic and have no ties to either the Midwest or Southwest, but I'm going to work really hard and hopefully do well in school!

How can you rationalize Colorado over Iowa for me? We're talking $18,500 in loans the first year + $42,000 in years two and three combined (if getting in-state residency works) + whatever the cost of living there is. Iowa is free except for cost of living.

I've been working this job as an SAT prep teacher for the past six months. It's only a part-time job, but I've saved up a couple of thousand. I can maybe save about $10k between now and next summer, but I have $32k in undergrad loans. I'm playing online poker on the side trying to win a big money tournament to pay off these loans, but it's a seesaw battle.


Any advice on what to do??? I just want to break even on my undergrad debt, have a solid legal career, and play poker.

My cage is undergoing repairs.

I know it sounds silly, but the poker thing is true and I'm not ashamed of it! I'm setting aside a solid $1,500 of play money from the $10k I'll earn in the next six months and trying to use it to win a lot in online poker so that I can eliminate my UG debt before law school and (MAYBE!) so that I can cover the cost of schools like CU where I don't have a full scholarship. It sounds crazy, but I'm pretty consistent with money finishes online!

UNLV seems like a good fit. I just want to really be able to focus on law school though. My grades are going to be so important and I can't afford to be at the casino all day long.

DaRascal, what do you actually want to do when you finish law school, and where? If you are actually deciding between Iowa and Colorado, those are the questions you need to answer.

Anything with free tuition dude. None of the above is probably the best answer here, but Iowa among the choices presented.

Eh I'm pretty open-minded. I'm just looking for a good legal job and I'll work anywhere.
