Law School Rankings

Business Insider recently released its annual law school rankings. After the usual top 20ish schools, they mix things up a bit. For example, in Texas the rankings are: #19 UT, #22 Baylor, #38 SMU. Additionally, some of the schools are often on the "don't go unless it's free" list on this forum. What are TLS's thoughts?

Georgetown 5 spots ahead of Penn? hmmm
This set of rankings seems to follow lay prestige to a t, which is not too surprising considering they used a survey monkey poll to evaluate

My first guess would be that they're including paralegals in the "legal professionals" class.

Like all arbitrary rankings, these are useless.

Employment stats are a substantially better way to judge a law school than any ranking.

To create this list, we surveyed more than 300 American legal professionals to determine the best law schools in the US with the help of SurveyMonkey.
This year Yale replaced Harvard as the No. 1 school.
Our survey asked participants to select the top 10 law schools in terms of how well they prepare students to land their ideal job. We recorded the percentage of respondents that ranked each school in the top 10.
Approximately 52% of survey participants said they have a law degree, while 3.5% reported that they had a partial degree, meaning they're either still in law school or dropped out.
what a fucking joke
anyone who gives these rankings any weight in their decision-making and is aware of the methodology has no business going to any law school

lol
i do hate the cuny pi shtick tho
"i go to cuny b/c no other law school has cuny's pi focus"
this is literally something that an actual person said on tls
the administration pushes it b/c the private sector has zero interest in cuny grads
and i know more than a few people who were aiming for better schools, didn't get in, got admitted to cuny, and suddenly developed a passion for indigent defense
also if cuny was so well respected in the pi world, they wouldn't advertise access to nyu's pilc fair as a selling point
and they wouldn't have a 48% employment rate with 37% underemployment despite a class size of only 104

i'd put usc somewhere in the 30s if bob morse handed me the reins
they're 51th in job employment, and that's WITH a 4.2% school funded rate
and they're right around the middle in underemployment (23.9% + 2.1% unknown)
maybe they get some credit for bl+fc and the fact it's an oversaturated market
but i'm p sure student selectivity and peer/lawyer assessment is what keeps them afloat in usnwr

for LA hiring purposes in the private sector and with federal judges, it's still very much UCLA/USC as peers above everyone not a T14 though. So I think this is a little harsh, but I suppose it depends on where you want to be.
