I've got more than a few if you don't mind fielding them...

Based on what you've experienced so far does BC tailor well toward public interest? How's the Newton campus? Do you have a car/is it advisable to have a car? Any experiences with gunners or the like? How's the campus gym if there is one?
thanks friend

if you'd have asked a month ago i'd be pretty confident in saying the former
but considering they dropped -2 from 164 to 162 and -.10 from 3.61 to 3.51, who knows
your numbers are looking a lot more competitive now that the c/o 2017 numbers are up

1. I know many people who are interested in public interest (enough to skip OCI altogether). I obviously havent attended other schools to compare but I do have friends at a few other schools and it seems BC students are more interested in public interest than the average (though dont quote me on this). While many students did OCI/want to work for big firms it's certainly not out of the ordinary to find PI-dedicated people. Not sure what you mean by "tailor well" but many people participate in the gov/pi fairs and get internships that way.

2. Newton campus is nice. There is a freshman dorm here but I hardly ever see them unless I'm around in the evening and they're eating dinner. Our campus is not far from the regular Chestnut Hill campus. There is a shuttle that goes from law school to main campus to the T stops and plenty of people dont have cars. That being said, the shuttle can be annoying I hear (esp in winter with the snow) so having a car would be nice but in no way necessary.

3. Every section has 2-3 gunners but all in all, people are SUPER nice. This is my favorite thing about BC to be honest. People are actually chill/nice/kind.

4. Campus gym is on main campus. It's mediocre AND not free. Annoying.

I'd agree with Brut. Our ranking and medians have gone down last few years. Ordinarily I would say you probably dont have a strong shot but at this point.. who knows. I'd def apply. BC is not as numbers focused as BU and does some weird things every year. Not sure if theyre more holistic or what but I remember from my cycle, the consensus was BC was a bit unpredictable.

What proportion of c/o 2013/2014 kiddos are stuck in the Vale?

Best of luck on the retake. You have a chance with your #s as they are, but BC is NOT worth sticker. Don't go unless you get a 3/4 scholly or higher.

2L here, will be happy to answer questions. You're set with the 164 btw, expect a healthy scholarship. For those worried about money (everyone?), be willing to play hardball with BC. They were more than willing to negotiate when I applied.

I'm hoping for a good scholly. I applied ED to BU as well, but I've already been accepted to BC at this point. How do you negotiate scholarships exactly? Any insight you have for BC specifically or is there just a thread I need to read to understand the concept?

Money was a big issue for me, so I applied to a few comparable schools and used the scholarship offers from the comparable schools as leverage to get a higher scholarship at BC. A polite, respectful, yet assertive e-mail should be fine...the email should probably outline that money is an issue, and that you would be unable to accept BC's offer of admissions without a certain $$$ because comparable school XYZ has offered you $$$...emphasizing that you love BC and just need the finances to work can go a long way in this situation. Note that this is what worked for me, but your mileage may vary...there are other threads on this topic and other strategies may be more effective than mine. For what it is worth, I was able to up my scholarship by 7K. Good luck!

What sort of admission chances/scholly amounts should a 163/3.2 URM expect at BC this cycle? I'll be applying to both BC and BU (considering BU ED), but with the recent median shifts, I don't know what to expect.

I'd also love to hear what you guys think you'd need (or actually got) from BC to make them worth taking over a t14 school.

Thanks for taking questions!

It certainly does, and it's even weirder to be on the other side of this kind of thread.

you'll definitely get in. with money.

Depends what t14 school and what your goals are. Georgetown? at least half scholarship. other t14 with better oci numbers (assuming you want big law), i'd need almost full from BC to persuade me to go. I didnt get into a t14 and I have 70% scholarship but i have several yrs work experience, saved $ and knew I could graduate debt free/<15k loans so I felt good about it. I wouldnt have gone to BC if I had to take any kind of significant loans though. too risk adverse given that I had a decent career going.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of BC vs BU? I've looked at employment numbers and basic LST stats, but what other info would be helpful?

From a statistical perspective, it is worth noting the number of school-funded jobs by the two schools. Besides this minor nuance, this question is very hard to answer because (1) I don't go to BU, and (2) much of the BC/BU preference is just that--a matter of personal preference.

Points of difference between the two schools:
-Location (BC is in newton, which is more of a suburb of Boston, whereas BU is located close to Fenway Park. I wouldn't say BU is in downtown Boston, but it is certainly closer to downtown than BC).
-BC Law is not a part of the main Chestnut Hill campus. Instead, BC Law is located in the Newton campus, where a large portion of freshman undergrads live. I thought this would be a downer, but I only see freshman in the cafeteria (they don't attend classes in the law building), and I only see them there if I stay late or show up particularly early. I barley notice them. BU Law is located fairly centrally on the BU campus, so you are with all the other undergraduates and graduates once you step out the law building.
-BC has a football team, if you're interested in that kind of thing. There's generally more school spirit at BC.
-Look at the differences in the journals and clinics, if that is of interest to you. For example, I am interested in IP and liked the fact that BU has a journal on Science and Technology Law, whereas BC doesn't have an official journal in that area.
-BC has a campus, BU doesn't really have a campus feel. Some people likes campuses, other's don't. Your call in that respect.
-I can't speak for BU, and it's very cliche, but BC does feel like the "Disneyland" of law school sometimes. There are exceptions, but most people aren't as cutthroat as you would expect. The school brings puppies into the library during finals.
-BC has a great overall institutional reputation in the area, especially from people who grew up in the area. This is mainly because its undergraduate program is considered superior to that of BU. I'm in no place to judge how employers view BC Law in comparison to that of BU Law.
-BU Law is directly on the B line of the T, making transportation convenient (yet frustrating, as anyone who has taken the B line can testify). BC Law is not directly located on the T, and is accessed by car (seems like most people drive to school) or by shuttle, which can be a hassle.

I imagine none of this is new to anyone who has done an ounce of research into the two schools, but it's hard to provide more without actually having attended both schools at the law school level.

Go to the one you get the most money at. If a tie, visit both and go to the one you like better. They have very different feels and chances are you'll "click" with one or the other.

Hi there! I'm looking to go to BC, and I am just trying to get a feel for whether or not I should expect scholarships. Perhaps if you know anyone with similar numbers to mine, and have an idea of whether or not they received scholarships (let alone gained admission!), that would be really helpful!

LSAT: 165
GPA: 3.97

What do you think? Could I be looking at some financial help?
