About a year ago, we brought our readers the sad news that TJSL had conducted faculty and staff layoffs in an effort to free up funds. Not only had it suffered a blow to its enrollment, but it was also struggling to pay off the $133 million debt it accumulated after opening its new campus building in 2011.
To make matters infinitely worse, in December 2013, Standard and Poor’s released news that it had downgraded the credit ratings of a slew of stand-alone law schools. TJSL was one of the downtrodden schools whose credit standing was downgraded to B+, junk bond status with a negative outlook.
Now, we’ve got news that could have disastrous effects for the law school. It seems that TJSL has defaulted on its bonds, and it may be unable to remain in operation due to its financial predicament…
people in the medians thread wonder why they aren't seeing schools hit by the downturn in apps
look to schools like tjls
they've shaved 100 students over three years and the medians are still plummeting
and that's before this year's numbers have even been released
cooley shutting down in ann arbor
mass student defects at concordia
tjls possibly closing its doors
it has been a good year so far
here's hoping the momentum continues

Last I heard he had dropped out and was doing some self study for the bar. He'll be just fine, don't you worry.

1.) Who is john1990?
2.) Do the students have any argument their tuition should be refunded? The classes alone are near valueless, and whatever value a student has is all in the degree. As TJLS works to make transferring impossible with low medians and section stacking, wouldn't taking their money for 2 yrs with no degree awarded amount to them failing to uphold their end of the "bargain?"
I know everyone going to these schools is dumb. But this leaves caveat emptor and enters into consciously and Knowjngly fucking people in the ass.

If TJSL closes down current students will have their federal loans forgiven. Also, you're being generous in describing why transferring is impossible from TJSL; they actually make you pay back your scholarship if you transfer.

That sounds like a really good deal for the students.

Especially considering that you can pass the bar without attending law school.
If all law schools teach the same law, and TJLS is a resume stain, the students don't lose anything spending a year studying for the bar. I'd respect someone who passed the bar without law school, personally. Big law and clerkships are cut off to them regardless.
What I don't get is what happens to the loans? Why does the school escape? Can we start a law school, and close down in 2 years? We can even have a deal with the students. Is there no law against this? Seems too easy to scam the public.

Also do we have any record of any school successfully using the payback clause?

Everyone involved in that scam school should be in jail. It’s just morally wrong they were allowed to keep scamming students for years.
