Top Law Schools

Hi I applied this cycle and had an in at Cornell and UF with scholly. I chose UF and dropped cornell, but now I’m debating taking a year off, retaking the lsat and reapplying. I want to work in Cali, and I feel as if UF won’t provide me that opportunity, and transferring will be too hard.
I already took a year off, so now it would be the second year off.

Stats: 3.6, 162, Mexican.
Goal: Biglaw/midsize California

What should I do?

I think that going to a law school planning to transfer is an awful idea, because you don't have any clue how you'll perform. You have the opportunity to choose the law school that's right for you BEFORE committing to one that's obviously not. Don't let impatience keep you from retaking and going to a school that can actually help you reach your goals.

I think that going to a law school planning to transfer is an awful idea, because you don't have any clue how you'll perform. You have the opportunity to choose the law school that's right for you BEFORE committing to one that's obviously not. You know what sucks? Being stuck in a state you don't want to be in. Get a job in a law office so you can make sure that the law is ACTUALLY what you want to do, study for the LSAT. Get that score up, go to Boalt or UCLA/USC.

As Geaux said, never attend a law school thinking you'll be able to transfer out. There's no way to predict where you'll rank in your class after 1L. Assume median, which will not get you UCLA. (And in this scenario, even if you win, you lose, because you'll be attending UCLA at sticker.)

I have been working in a law office for the past 4 years... Just need to retake the damn test again.

I did it at 27 and plenty of people have done it while even older. Worked out just fine for us. One extra year is never going to make a difference regardless of how old you are. Besides, it sounds like you're still in your early-mid 20's so you have nothing to worry about.

I haven't been studying at all since last december.

The test is in September and Decemeber.

I'm taking the LSAT in Decemeber. I'll be 26 when I start, and graduate at 29. I have experience in the pratice that I'd like to pursue (Securities/Corporate law). However, as the above poster stated, the debt load is HUGE. I won't go unless I get into the T-14+Vanderbilt, or Wake Forest/Chapel Hill full ride

I have two friends who went K-JD and one who took a year off. All three are massively in debt. One is still jobless after taking USC at sticker. One is currently unemployed and has 80k of debt at a CA TTT. The other is a 3L at a CA TTT (paying sticker).

I'd rather be the 25/26 year old guy who went to a good school or decent school for free.
