WVU Law (sticker) or Dusquene Law (20k Scholly)

Hey ya'll

I'm from Southern WV and I have been accepted to both WVU Law and Duquesne Law. I am getting 20k to do to DU but none to go to WVU. I don't have any clue about either, but DU must be better, right? Pittsburgh/PA seems like it has a lot employment opportunities than WV does. It would be nice to stay in state though.

So I ask, which is better? Where would you go?

Retake so that you can at least get a substantial, preferably full, scholarship to those schools and/or similar ones.

Ehh I mean, he shouldn't go to Dusquene under pretty much any circumstances most likely. But as a native of WV wanting to work in WV, I don't think WVU would be a bad choice. It would need to be pretty much tuition free/no more than 20-30k debt though (and I'm sure some will disagree with that even).

So none of the above as it stands. You do have to retake so you can at least get a substantial scholarship to WVU. From what I know, W&L is not a bad choice for natives of Southern WV but not sure how generous they are with scholarships. I would assume WVU would be cheaper in most all circumstances so I would probably just do the flagship over W&L.

WVU would be fine but retake for scholarship money.

I don't see why not if OP is ok with practicing in a smaller firm in WV given that he's from there.

Prestige tool. Nothing to see here.

Being concerned with a coin flip chance at any job is not prestige whoring. Getting a small firm job is still an unlikely outcome.

you could've easily explained your reasoning without leaving a pointless "LOL no"
Around these parts it's pretty common knowledge.

Its hard to justify these options. The cost is just totally out of whack with the job opportunities. In 1994 or 1984 WVU at sticker might have been a great decision for someone like you, but in 2014 its a really bad decision.

You may want to consider getting a paralegal job in the market where you would like to practice. Working as a para in say, Morgantown, would allow you to learn about the practice of law, make some connections and study some more for the LSAT. Then, if you choose to attend WVU, you could potentially have place to return after school, and perhaps work part-time while in school. A better LSAT could also help you obtain some money from WVU.

I can't believe I blindly follow statistic and logic. What have I become.
