Saw postings ranging from $35K to $50K. Just depends.

Um, doesn't the state bar require malpractice insurance for private attorneys?

Colorado makes you report whether you have it, at least.

Yeah I saw that. It's not mandatory though.

65% of Florida attorneys have it, so undoubtably most solos in Florida do not carry it.

Don't the state bar licensing board prosecute malpractice actions? All you have to do is fill out a form and they investigate.
