People keep talking about how HYS gives you these jobs that nobody else gets. But nobody elaborates.

I'll start: http://www.state.gov/s/l/

However, it's not clear to me that "L" is a YSH advantaged place. Might just be Y.

Unicorn jobs aren't really all that cool anyway. Just sound prestigious.

It's because you went to NU and wouldn't understand even if we tried to explain it. Just keep looking for prior art and stop asking questions.

Huh? That position is almost always filled by an HLS grad.

People on the TLS forget all too often that outside of article 3 clerkship and top big law shops, the difference between HYS is non-existent. I never really understood their penchant to exaggerate the value of YLS, I don't see anyone consecrating UChi in a CCN discussion because of the marginal advantage it offers in academia/clerkship.

Know who I am jealous of now that I practice? Shitlawyers. They go to court, have actual trials, don't deal with a lot of the biglaw institutionalized psychosis bullshit... There is nothing about unicorn jobs that appeals to me. I guess maybe impact litigation but I reeeeaaaaally don't want to deal with nonprofit world drama.

I just spent the week in court and had the time of my life. Have you ever even been inside a courtroom?

Someone mentioned in the other thread that in house at a major sports league counts as a unicorn job, so I was curious.

Don't know if these are accurate listings

NFL

HYS-- 3
CCN-- 6
other t14-- 2
other-- 12

NBA

HYS-- 5
CCN-- 2

Thats because when biglawyers go to court, they just take notes or hold papers. Glorified water boys.

In terms of QOL, it seems like PI attorneys love their lives a lot more. Curious to see what "unicorn" PI attorneys think.

Some unicorn jobs have more approachable counterparts, that people overlook because of prestige. E.g. top grads fall over themselves to get a chance to do appellate work. But most of the guys who argue on the reg in our circuit court are from small local firms and went to Temple or whatever.

I used to think being an immigration lawyer would be interesting because you're in court all the time. Then I did a lot of immigration work my 3L year and realized an asylum interview is about 3 hours of just sitting there.

It would be a fun starter gig, but unless you had rich foreign royalty and celebs as clients most would be state run clinic type stuff or paid in wages that illegal immigrants can afford to pay.

It would be an interesting thing to do as a summer clinic to be sure. I'd hate to wake up a decade later realizing that I can't afford to quit since I am chasing a pension on it though.

Associate position in lifestyle a midlaw in Austin, Atlanta, or other dream cities for naive 0Ls. Pays 160k and 9:00~18:00 working hours; guaranteed partner track; in fact, you will be made partner by 33 years old; substantial responsibilities early on.

Occasionally, you will see a thread on TLS asking for this kind of jobs.
