Retake, but if not, I would not take GULC at sticker. How much would your cost of attendance be? Probably north of $250k. I think you would have to pick GW with $40k/year.

i picked GW, but with 75% you should be able to negotiate something with GULC. That said, not sure what would be enough to make the difference...

This is like a game of blackjack. I have a 16. Do I really want to hit and hope the next card is low and not bust (Georgetown), or should I stand and stay with GW?
The books says to surrender in that situation.

40k is not enough to make a difference. Gulc gives you a better chance at a job.

No.

It's $120K, but moreover, just no.

GW all the way. GULC at sticker is suicide.

Oh shit 120k? Makes GW a solid option. But, moreover, dude sounds like he's got it under control.

Whoa, what? Quarter million on a 50/50 shot is a bad idea. You might be sensitive and the language might be strong, but the point stands.

Yeah, GULC at sticker would be a catastrophe. GW with 120k is much more reasonable.

Take GW and see if it's even possible to combo it into their part-time program. Then you can work, go to school for a reasonable price, and graduate debt free. (Note: this might not actually be possible.)

Nope:
GWU Admissions wrote:the total award will be disbursed in equal amounts during consecutive fall and spring semesters over your time at GW Law as long as you remain in the Full Time program.
Also, extra info I will mention in the original post.

Damn, that is really unfortunate. I would still take GWU though. I also recommend weighing the pros and cons of WE during GW part-time in terms of debt loads. I think GW 75% full-time wins, but it could be worth looking into. I know a few people (at least one on this board) who did GW part-time while working at USPTO and they were able to manage zero debt--this was an IP case though which may also not apply in your circumstances.

Good luck!

I'm sorry, but what does WE stand for? I've thought of actually working full-time and going to Gtown or GWU part-time, but that assumes I would find employment in DC that would advance my public sector career. I'm not sure how quickly or easily I could obtain one. Perhaps if I get a 175 on the LSAT (lol), I'll just apply next year and find employment at a government office, lol.

Thank you for the luck!

Depends on what the dealer has.

OP, I am facing a similar choice between Gtown and Penn, but in my case GTown is your GW.

The only thing that is keeping me from going with Penn is GTown's location. IMO, you're crazy to not go with Georgetown. Don't be bought-- just go to the better school, that way you don't have to say "I could have done better."

Saying "I could have done better" with regards to school is better than saying "I could have had a life" while you drown in $3,500 monthly payments.

I go with the money. I understand transferror's logic. In better economic times, it would be the credited response. I wouldn't worry about the federal government's budget tightening or the law firms' hiring reduction.

But in the current times, a different survival strategy is needed: minimization of liability and maximization of employment opportunity. Therefore, this court rules that GWU may be the more optimal choice.

Besides, with all the knowledge I know of the admissions process, I'll teach my kids well enough so they'll get into Yale.

Wait, what? Are you picking apart his logic or supporting it? My sarcasm alert is not working.
Former. His/Her logic is terrible, and going to a "better" school is less important than chances of a good outcome, of which debt is a factor. IMO, biglaw isn't a "good outcome" at 250k debt, it's the necessary outcome that still leaves you shackled by ridiculous loan payments for a decade or better. Also, gobosox told you to ignore the $$ and "go to the better school," but s/he is taking the money and going to the lower ranked school :? .

Based on everything I've read, Georgetown opens significantly more doors than GW. I'm saying pick a school based on how good of a school it is-- figure out a way to make the money work. (To contextualize, I worked my butt off for a while and saved up 100k and got a scholarship before going to law school so that I could fulfill that goal.)

You can make the money work-- it just takes some work.

Also FWIW, the only reason I am considering G'Town is for the location over Penn-- the money is far secondary.

Every time someone on TLS talks about a law school "opening doors", 20 puppies get burnt alive.

Bonus to 25 for "significantly" more.
