IU-Bloomington $$ or Wake Forest $$?

Most desired markets are, not in any order: D.C., NYC, Chicago.
I see they're peer schools, at least as far as USNWR rankings go (#29 vs. #31) but is there any appreciable difference between the two? Is it just a coin flip - that should come down to which town I like more? Or would I be foolish not to take one over another? For whatever it may be worth IU is pretty respected in a unique niche that interests me.
Indiana seems to do slightly better in the secondary & tertiary rankings - any idea why?

These schools don't get you into any of the markets you want. IU gives you a shot at Chicago, but UIUC and ND would be much better choices for Chicago. You aren't getting DC or NYC out of IU.
Wake Forest might give you a shot at DC, but there are a number of other schools that would be better for DC and not much of a chance at NYC. If those are your desired markets I would not go to either

I take your point but eleven of the class of 2013 from IU went to D.C.; nine from WFU (granted the difference in class size of about 50).
Charlotte + Triangle & Indianapolis would be fine, I'm not picky, but I might have NYC-envy wherever I end up.

You know that neither Chicago, DC, nor New York is located in Indiana or North Carolina, correct? Go to a school where you want to work.

If those are your desired markets then you should be choosing between different (most likely much higher ranked) schools. Going to either and trying to snag NY would be absurd.
Of the kids who go to those markets from those schools they probably have tippy top grades, which is probably something that won't happen for you, statistically speaking.

Fair points all around.
Let's set aside my comment about markets. I will be happy anywhere.
Which is the better school? Taking all sorts of things into consideration, including QOL.

There are no better schools. There are schools that are better for certain people at certain prices. This entirely depends on your debt at repayment, your career goals, and your ties.

Wake is better for NC and IU is better for Indiana. Going to either without expecting to practice in that state would not be wise. Getting Chicago from IU is possible but not the likely scenario.

Indiana has IUB, IUPUI, Valpo, and INDIANA TECH, so the market is way too overcrowded. Going to Wake will probably be a better choice for a similar price because NC generally fares better as a legal market.
