Vanderbilt vs. Georgetown

Post by legallygator » Thu Apr 10, 2014 6:09 pm

Hey guys!

I am deciding between Vanderbilt with half-tuition and Georgetown with no aid. I don't know what type of law I want to practice, and most of my experience is in politics, but I had SUCH a good time at Vanderbilt's Open House. So I'm going to you guys asking what y'all would do and why.

Thanks!

EDIT: Whoops! Forgot to answer the questions.
Georgetown would be about 190k, while Vandy would end up being about 70k. (Using the Gtown calculator)
I have a fund with money for housing, about 60k total, so without that, its 250k and 120k, respectively.
Other than that, I'm relying completely on loans.
I don't really know where I'd like to be. I know I love DC, but I'm pretty open to anywhere. And I also don't have a specific type of law I want to practice either. That's part of what's making it so hard to choose.

If you have $25k/yr, the total cost difference is around $100k if LST is accurate. I don't the Georgetown is ever worth $100k more than Vandy. Employment numbers are too similar for that.

Vandy's open house is always great! The main thing that deterred me was what was then a subpar lrap. I have no idea what their lrap is like now, but its good to put that into the equation just in case you get bit by the public interest bug at some point in law school.

Vanderbilt is the only sane option of those 2

but biglaw is unlikely and your degree will be better regarded if youre from the south and want to work there

but not a bad call for that price at all

Given the two, Vandy's the better option. Clerkship biglaw percentages are almost the same. GULC isn't worth any more money than Vandy unless you don't want to work in the South.
