(3.17, 164, AA-URM) I sent out applications around Feb 10th. and have heard back from
university of pennsylvania law school - REJECTED
University of California, Berkeley, School of Law - REJECTED
University of Virginia School of Law - Waitlist
The George Washington University Law School - Waitlist
Georgetown University Law Center - ACCEPTED (Waiting for Scholarship info)
University of Southern California, Gould School of Law - ACCEPTED $$(30k a year)
Notre Dame Law School - ACCEPTED
University of Washington School of Law - ACCEPTED
University of California Hastings College of the Law -ACCEPTED
I have several applications still waiting to hear back from but considering i'm in at USC and GTown the only schools I would choose over them that I applied to are Chicago, Columbia, Cornell, Duke, New York U, and UCLA.
My question is, I've noticed schools like Notre Dame and USC and others have deadlines of April 15th for scholarship money acceptance so I'm wondering, do all schools use that deadline because Law schools should all have gotten back by that time? or is it likely I will have to blindly accept an offer come April 15th before hearing back from every last school? (Not super worried if its just a deposit but I'd rather be sure).
- Thanks everyone!

waitlists can last through summer. If you deposit, it isn't binding if you are on a waitlist and later get accepted

If you're riding a WL you'll probably need to deposit, but it's not binding or anything (or, it shouldn't be). Otherwise you'll likely have heard from the rest of the schools by then. Also, if you get in post 04/15 or whatever you'll just be asked to send in scholarship paperwork "soon."

Ya I'm not really worried about the schools I'm wait listed on, I'm very happy with USC and Georgetown, I just wanted to make sure I might get some sort of a response from those last schools by 4/15

I'm in a similar boat - have a full tuition offer and a nearly-full tuition offer at two T20s, but I'm on a few T14 waitlists and I'm still waiting on a decision from a few other T14s. I think I'm just going to deposit at my favorite bargain while waiting for decisions elsewhere.
Potential hangup - can schools require you to withdraw everywhere else as a condition of accepting a scholarship? Does this pertain to applications for which you're riding a WL? I haven't scrutinized my paperwork yet, but I've heard this concern expressed from others ...

I'm priority waitlist at georgetown in at texas and utah gave me a deposit deadline of the 7th and if I deposit I have to agree to withdraw all apps to keep the scholarship. Such bullshit.

Fairly certain they can't make you withdraw from WLs, there's an ABA rule against that or something. Maybe you can find it by searching the forum or asking Spivey.

What about schools you haven't heard from yet?

Can't make you withdraw from those either. Just the schools that have accepted you, IIRC.

No they cannot make you withdraw from WL or schools you have not heard back from, only admitted schools. The Yale admissions dean posted something on her 203 blog about this in decent length and says to personally give her a call if any schools give you problems about this ( though the post is rather old). I remember her stating that there is a rule about this (as previously mentioned in this thread). I cannot find the specific post but you may want to dig through if it makes you feel better.

Thanks, ya'll. That makes me feel better. I'll double-check all of this, but it sounds like the consensus is that what I'm planning is legit. Appreciated.

USC makes you accept the scholly by 4/15, but it's not binding until you pay the deposit before 5/1. At that point they make you withdraw from any other schools to which you've been accepted... UNLESS you're willing to sacrifice the scholly, which would be a horrifying way to play this out.

No doubt. Thanks for the advice.
