Top Law Schools

Trying to narrow down my decision with the deposit deadlines looming, what do you guys think is the best option? I am not retaking (happy with available options) thank you

Goals, ties, and more precise cost of attendance numbers would be beneficial here. On its face, none of the options look particularly solid other than UNC if you're from North Carolina and would like to do small law or non-prestigious PI in the area.

Very strong connections in the Midwest and east coast (DC area.) hope to only practice law for 3-5 years before returning home, working for family business. Looking for best experience possible (Chapel Hill visit was incredible) at a respectable and highly thought of university. Not obsessed with "big law" though through my research it seems if I excel at UNC, gw or to an extent Minnesota I can get into a large firm. Still waiting on some top 14 schools but this is a "what's the best of my current acceptances" situation. Thank you

Why just the 3-5 years? Is there a reason you can't get a paying job with the family business at this point?

I wouldn't go to law school intentionally trying to practice only 3-5 years. How will practicing help you in the business?

Haha yea good point, they actually had 53 days below 0 last year (days in which the temperature, I'm assuming mostly at night, at some point was negative)

And I say 3-5 years because that's how long I want to live somewhere new, have the big city experience etc. I could go work for the family business now but I want a different experience, broaden my horizons a bit. I will most likely open my own practice after that time, back home. My family owns office buildings around the state where I'm from, and my father was a federal judge and accomplished attorney so hopefully that will help my chances of a successful practice of my own (name recognition in the community) I really appreciate the feedback so far, I'm very confused as to what to do and am happy to have found this resource

Thanks! New acceptances this last week though so even more confused. Big mistake applying so late, I have almost no time to figure things out prior to deposit deadlines.

even if you do not retake, you should consider waiting a year and reapplying. you may get some money, and you give yourself more time to make a decision.

Yea I was considering waiting a year but in reality with my numbers (165, 3.5) i am concerned some of my acceptances (Fordham, gw, BC and to an extent UNC which is very difficult out of state) could be waitlist or rejection later on, worried about the gamble

Is retaking in June an option? It should be the only option IMO.

I suppose if you want politics OP then only do LS for free. If you have a solid business waiting for you, though, and politics isn't some intense passion, I can't see why you're doing LS at all. But if the business is unstable and you don't think it's going to make much for you ultimately, then LS could be a good move.

Business is very stable, been around since the 60s and (thankfully) is on the upswing after the recession. I want to go to law school, I think it will be a great experience and will improve "how I think" as they say. I also like the idea of living somewhere new , on my own, and having my own career prior to returning to my family business. What do you guys think of UNC overall? I loved my visit

OP probably thinks graded LRW sounds like fun too.

When you openly admit you want to go to law school so you can have good times, why not just go to DC and play politics for a few years? It'd be a lot cheaper for starters.

I think it'll be extremely challenging, I will learn an immense amount and be a much more well rounded individual afterwards. I really enjoy learning (I know how that sounds) and can't really think of a down side to going to law school. Very excited actually
