Duke, and it's not close.

I voted Duke. I would honestly flip houses though.

No question at all here: Duke.

I could see an argument for Texas if the money were right (as in full-ride right), but it's most likely going to be in line with the Vandy COA.

Obviously Duke.
I'm not sure why this is even a thread to be honest

Duke obviously but with 3.8/170 I'm shocked your didn't get in at Penn, UVA, Berk, Michigan as well.

Vandy 1L here. Would take Duke if your parents are paying for it. I'm sure you'd do fine at Vandy with your background, but there's no point in taking the riskier option when you're not bearing the cost.

More people go to NY/CA because more people want to go there/big law is there. Duke does just fine in the south/TX.
UT without TX ties is a non-starter IMO. Vandy is Diet Duke. I think UT can make sense over Duke (I made that choice) and no doubt Vandy can make more sense than Duke (particularly when you consider cost/personal reasons) but given your parents richness/generosity you have to choose Duke here. It's the best school of the three. Only other schools I would consider over Duke given your situation would be HYS and maybe UVA.

Since you're bearing no financial cost here..deposit at Duke. Then if you get off the WL at UVA and would prefer to go there, go there!

Write a persuasive letter of continued interest to UVA. Failing that, Duke easily.

^^These two broke it down perfectly.

BigBlackTruck wrote:My biggest reservation about Duke is that the top destinations are NY/CA, although NC manages to stay in the top 3. If any Duke students that are looking for employment in the South/TX could share their experiences, that'd be great. Not sure if it matters at all, but I'd prefer TN/TX to NC.
I also am accepted to Michigan, but since I am targeting the South I think Duke is a better option.
Duke > Michigan > Vandy & UT

Nice to see this poll since this is my decision currently too (minus the family paying for it). $$$ at Vandy and Texas and $$ at Duke (Still waiting to hear from Northwestern). Duke still an easy choice in this situation?

Meh. I'd probably go Duke unless you're absolutely positive you want to go to a Southeastern market like B'ham or Atlanta that you have strong ties to. Even then it's a tossup.
And I'm a Vandy 1L.

Duke is greatly respected in the South, the reason why it doesn't place more in the South is all self-selection.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I wasn't sure about the degree of self-selection at Duke, but now it's clear that it's the best choice.
