First, about me:
3.4 GPA/165 LSAT with STRONG softs.
Interested in Int. Human Rights/Public Int. Law (think ICC/ICJ/UN)
Offers:
UCLA:
- 30,000 per year with an additional 33,000 for first year only. (for a grand total of 123,000 in grants over three years)
UC Berkeley:
- Expected 10,000-20,000 (for a grand total of 30,000-60,000 in grants over three years)
Which would you choose?

URM or is berk just loving your softs?
Regardless Berkeley seems like the clear choice since the difference in debt is not huge.

Have you done much research into how tough it is going to be to get any sort of job at any of those places? Do you have the background that's going to get you there? And if you fail, do you have other legal jobs that interest you or is this the only thing that interests you?

@worldtraveler: yes, unfortunately... and its a terrifying prospect. I have a solid background in the subject area so don't believe it to be an entirely impossible career goal.

This is not a tough choice imo. If these are your only 2 options, Berkeley is worth well 90k+ over UCLA.

Disagree I would say it's a tough choice. If it's 120k for UCLA and only 30k for Boalt I think UCLA if it's 60k for Boalt then UCLA doesn't look as hot - tough call though I don't think you could go wrong either way.

I am in almost the same boat as you. I personally am trying (and mostly failing) to get my mind off deciding until I get my actual offer from Berkeley and visit the campus. Of course employment prospects are a huge consideration but so is choosing the place where you are going to spend 3 years of your life so liking the school/campus/other students also matters.
Good luck with your decision!

I usually say "fuck the debt mountain" but that's a reasonable amount more for Berkeley.
