What's your total COA including COL?

Cornell grad here currently in NYC BigLaw.

Would likely live off campus at Cornell, so that +sticker price. Fordham, would find an apt. with friends.

Do the math. That doesn't tell us anything.

~137

Ok Cornell COA would be ~208k. Fordham would be ~137. Difference of 70k.

Fordham is a nonstarter at that price and those goals. Retake and bring that COA down at Cornell.

Is it not possible to get something at Cornell though?

Cornell hasn't offered financial aid email yet

Do you have something keeping you to the city? Honestly, even though I think you are under representing your COA figures I would take Cornell over Fordham at almost any price, unless I hated small towns and couldn't go without the city.

Since you seem to be playing this based on geography, did you apply to Columbia/NYU/Penn. Penn isn't in NY, but its closer to NYC than Ithaca.

True that Cornell's financial emails have not been sent but I think I am unlikely to get anything. I applied to Penn (dinged) and NYU (haven't heard, but unlikely). Nothing keeping me in the city for school, but targeting job there after.

Nice try, bucko. You are massively underestimating your loan costs. At graduation, Cornell sticker will find you $295,000 in debt. Fordham with $75k scholarship will leave you $200,000 in the hole.

The answer is neither, but if you absolutely must, it's Cornell. Just be aware that should you be lucky enough to snag that biglaw gig (which at least 1/3 of the class that wants it won't), you'll have just earned yourself the honor of paying $60,000 in debt payments every year for six years. Few last that long in biglaw.

First of all how did you get those numbers? Also I plan on Biglaw long term.

Gotta factor in tuition increases and interest. Even if you ignore those two factors and just did Cornell's current COAx3, that comes out to ~$230k, not $208k.

Others would know better than I do, but from what I gather, it's pretty tough to stick it out in biglaw long-term even if you want to. Click on "forum search" at the top for more info.
