Do some schools really convert $$$$$ when you tranfer

Someone told me that some schools convert your merit scholarship to a loan if you transfer after your first year. So if I have a full ride at law school x, and decide to transfer to Harvard after my 1L, that full ride for 1L is turned into a loan that I have to pay back to the school. Is this true?

Thomas Jefferson did this at one point and still might. I'd recommend a retake.

Yes, it's true. It happened to me and to my friend when we transferred from our T50 after 1L. They said if I pay within 2 years there will be no penalty. $15k plus interest

. Luckily I landed Biglaw through my new school's OCI so I can pay it all off this summer. But it's still sad to see half of my earnings go down the drain. PM if you want more specific detail.

I'm not in law school yet and I'm not going to Thomas Jefferson. I got accepted to much better schools with full Duritos!!!!! I just wanted to see if it was true just in case I do decide to transfer.

As I said, you can PM if you want specifics. To be fair to the school, even though I really hate them, I will say that at least they are only giving me a 2% interest rate if I pay them back within 2 years.

Based on your post history, I'm guessing Fordham. Amirite? That Upper West Side rent can be expensive...

No it's not Fordham. I was at a now much lower ranked school outside of NY.
