Re: UF Law v. FSU Law
I agree. But I can also see this going the other way and actually cause UF to become demoralized and less engaged. UF does not have FSUs "little brother" complex to help them rally together.rdelaney wrote:It will be interesting to see how this works out in the next couple of years. The fire on UF's ass is practically an inferno. They don't like being second best to FSU. The alumni don't want that to happen either. I don't think UF will get complacent in the next few years. So keep your eyes peeled!wat wrote:FSUs rise was largely due to their decision to prioritize their law school (along with their better location).
I expect that FSU will continue to rise in rankings simply because they *need* this more than UF does. They will devote whatever resources they can to ensure that they can stay on top in at least one of the professional fields. UF traditionally beats FSU in most other professional fields, so UF can afford to be a bit complacent here. When supporters of either school start talking academic smack, UF can still point to their colleges of engineering and medicine.

Don't know but I hope not. I meant Florida Coastal.runinthefront wrote:FGCU has a law school?Nucky wrote:UF did cut their class size by 25%. They deserve credit for that. I'd like to see it cut further, but the downsizing reflects positively on UF.sublime wrote:I agree rdelaney. Weird that you got $$$ from UF but not FSU. In that situation, it is definitely the right call to go to UF.
They are pretty much equal at equal cost. I give the slight edge to FSU, but reasonable minds could disagree about that.
Florida Gulf Coast cranks out over 500 grads a year. UM has a huge class as well. UF is not some shameless diploma mill. You're better than that sublime. That's an unwarranted cheap shot.

Check out the number of test takers. Big difference between 17 test takers for UF in February and 266 in July. Plus, since UF only does fall admission, it's likely that the 6 people who failed in Feb also failed the previous July.
I can't believe someone brought Stetson into the conversation. It's between UF and FSU for the best law school in the state with Miami possibly slipping in the conversation. Stetson is kicking it at #93, the bottom of tier 2 land after years in AAA (tier 3).

Re: UF Law v. FSU Law
lol @ thinking your odds of landing a job in Florida from UF is discernible from the odds of landing one from FSU (arguably, your odds are worse) and that much better than Stetson...
...passing the bar does not equal employment and I would definitely expend more effort into seeking gainful employment this summer than trying to justify your decision for choosing UF over a virtually identical FSU

Quick question (or 2) runinthefront: Are you a FL resident? If you were, it seems you would know the brand prestige of UF. If not, why bother posting here on a UF v. FSU thread?

Re: UF Law v. FSU Law
Born and raised in Florida, and am aware of the fact that UF's lay prestige in Florida is great-- many Floridians think of the undergraduate school as a Southern Ivy.
Unfortunately, lay prestige means little in the legal field. I mean, employment stats don't lie and unfortunately, Florida's underemployment score at this time is actually lower than that of FSU and Stetson.

Re: UF Law v. FSU Law
Except that our future clients will mostly be lay people. I would argue this prestige extends to the entire University, not just undergrad. Plus, the Gator Nation is very real. In my short time here, we've had 2 federal judges on campus, numerous attorneys, etc. Also, and more importantly, during the week prior to class starting (during orientation) and during the first 5 weeks of class, multiple law firms were on campus EVERY SINGLE DAY interviewing UF Law students. This is the best school in the state. In March, US News will figure that out. I doubt there are that many people, if anyone at all, that chose another school in the state of FL at the same COA. I have numerous classmates (myself included) that turned down money, even full scholarships, at other schools to come here.runinthefront wrote:Born and raised in Florida, and am aware of the fact that UF's lay prestige in Florida is great-- many Floridians think of the undergraduate school as a Southern Ivy.

I don't know why the personal attack had to come in...but ok. Enjoy your 65% employment rate.
Say hi to all the personal injury attorneys you see on campus everyday for me, will ya?

Roberto's UF homerism is fucking ridiculous

Will do. So.... why are you even posting in this thread again? Clearly, T-14 is preferable to both UF and FSU. Just trolling... again (I read your earlier remarks).

Right, and you chose UVA, a T-14. Smart choice! My point was people choosing a law school in FL other than UF if they got in.North wrote:Roberto's UF homerism is fucking ridiculous

Re: UF Law v. FSU Law
Good thing you told us you're just expertly trolling us, or I'd think you were a complete fucking moron. There are plenty of good reasons to attend FSU over UF in Florida, particularly for people interested in state government work or working in north Florida over middle Florida. I would have picked FSU if I wanted to stay in FL.Roberrrrto wrote:Right, and you chose UVA, a T-14. Smart choice! Also, lol that this guy's posting history consists entirely of dick slanging for UF.
UF is one of at least a couple (depending on what part of FL you're targeting) okay schools in an incredibly oversaturated legal market. Sorry bro, there's nothing special about your school.

At least I praise UF on UF threads. I don't go down to the FIU v Miami or other threads that don't have anything to do with UF (cough cough... hint hint) just to be a jerk.North wrote:Also, lol that this guy's posting history consists entirely of dick slanging for UF.

You realize these things happen at every law school in the country, right?Roberrrrto wrote:In my short time here, we've had 2 federal judges on campus, numerous attorneys, etc. Also, and more importantly, during the week prior to class starting (during orientation) and during the first 5 weeks of class, multiple law firms were on campus EVERY SINGLE DAY interviewing UF Law students.

Re: UF Law v. FSU Law
Stupid is stupid no matter where you find it. There are 0L's out there that might make a decision between UF and FSU based on your useless bar pass rate snapshots if someone didn't jump in to point out that you have a lizard brain. The decision between UF and FSU is one that should be made in consideration of a 0L's career goals, finances, and geographic preferences. In many cases, FSU is the hands-down better choice. It's really really cool you're happy with UF though.Roberrrrto wrote:At least I praise UF on UF threads. But lol at you seeing this as me coming down from ~ON HIGH~ in some UVA thread to tell you that your categorical bullshit is just that.
