Top Law Schools

Hi All,
I would like to work somewhere like NYC which is the heart of international business and finance center. So far, I've got Cardozo which also offers $28,000. Yet, I understand it ranks around 40. And its record for big laws is not even as good as that of UIUC, while its unemployment rate is 18% or so. I'm wondering whether Cardozo belongs to the category of "low-ranking New York law school"?

Their debt rating is now junk bond status. I'm not sure how that's going to affect the law school, but the law school isn't going to have any support from the central university for the next 5-10 years, it's safe to say. In a time where, nationally, law schools are having to rely on their central universities to maintain their class profiles, Cardozo may not have the cash to hand out scholarships, etc., and their ratings might start plummeting.

I wouldn't take out any debt to attend Cardozo.

What are your goals as a lawyer? Also, what is your undergrad GPA and LSAT score?

Ignore usnwr. Go by lst.

You should calculate the COA. COA= 3(tuition + fees + COL - scholly)

Eyeballing it, Youre looking at way over 100k COA, which is way too much for their job prospects

Not on that scholarship, no (and I go to Cardozo). This was a full ride or nothing decision for me, and that's in addition to my ability to offset a significant chunk of the COL (and since 1L I've been able to work to offset most of the rest).

TBH, I can't think of a single person off the top of my head who's headed for BigLaw post-grad. I'm also a Gov't/PI bound person, so that's not my scene. But as far as I know, it's not where the placement is. Kids headed for firms seem to be headed for the medium and small sized firms (if at all).

P.S. to the poster who linked to the YU article, I can't really overstate how wide the chasm is between Cardozo and YU. The admin here (obviously) won't say it, but it's clear they've been looking for a reason to cut that tie for quite some time. Not to mention the fact that Cardozo makes a killing off the May students, who for some reason think it's cool to pay full tuition with an additional "third semester" added to their bill. They make up roughly 1/3rd of our class once they assimilate into the incoming fall class.
