Nice summation of the antithesis of TLSTom Joad wrote:I would go to any law school, because at the end of the day if you pass the bar you are still an attorney at law.
You know a few people who have made bad life decisions who went to USC for undergrad, and therefore going to the law school there is out of the question because...this is deeply significant to the law experience you expect to have? Okay. The first should be obvious, given my undergrad, but I'd never go for South Carolina School of Law. I have a very unhealthy contempt for USC, and would be ashamed to put the name on my degree. I know the law school is separate from the rest of the university, but I come from an area where all the criminals/teenage mothers/ drug users are all Gamecocks, and i just can't shake that.
First of all, as a history major myself, it isn't true that there's no good historical representations in Williamsburg. Second, if your contention is that the Colonial Williamsburg experience is fake, that's because it's designed to be family-friendly. It would be a bit like faulting Disney for leading you to believe mice are anthropomorphic. Third, remind me why this has anything to do with your law experience again? The second is William and Mary. I do think it's a fine school. I visited William and Mary in high school, and despised everything about the place. The entire town of Williamsburg is fake, with nothing historical in it, despite the city's incredible history. As a historian that drives me crazy.
First of all, Dohrn is retired. And if its past hiring choices matter, I guess this means you're never working at Sidley Austin? Second of all, she's never been convicted of murder, although you could describe her past as politically-motivated terrorism. As to whether she's a "traitor," I guess that means you don't want any professors who have been anti-government activists? Seriously, I don't know what you mean by that. Many schools have hired professors who have done and/or advocated similar things. Third, I'm not convinced those actions make her unqualified to teach whatever it is that she taught, or whether it's at all relevant to the value of a Northwestern degree.I'm definitely not going to endear myself with my last school, but Northwestern. Look, Northwestern is an absolutely great school. However, I could never morally allow myself to give them my money for hiring Bernardine Dohrn. I mean, I don't care where you are politically, but here we have a murderer and traitor who should still be behind bars, and Northwestern thinks "This is exactly who we need to teach the next generation of attorneys tasked with preserving the law." Seems legit

Your opinion is bad and you should feel bad.MistakenGenius wrote: -I'm definitely not going to endear myself with my last school, but Northwestern. Look, Northwestern is an absolutely great school. I wouldn't really consider any school in Michigan, Indiana, or Ohio. Even UMich, Notre Dame, IU, etc. Why? I don't like declining rust belt cities and crappy weather. Is that fair? Don't know, never been there. Just the stereotype I've unintentionally taken on.
Maybe discussing schools that appeal to you that you're not really considering would bring this all in a more positive direction...
