SLU (Saint Louis University) Law

What do people think of SLU? I want to help others and make a good living (I'm not greedy). SLU law sounds like a great place with its #1 healthcare law program and highly talented faculty. I've heard Saint Louis is a tight legal community and graduating from SLU will get my foot in door at all the top St. Louis firms (my backup is public service, like I said I'm not greedy I just want to make a decent living and help others). My stats are GPA 3.6 (English major at SIU), spent a year studying for the LSAT (used Kaplan), took it four times and got 145/150/148/152/150.
Some friends suggest Mizzou would be cheaper but I think being in the city would be more fun and, like I said, it would show biglaw in St. Louis I'm serious about staying. Also, I think even if Mizzou is cheaper, you get what you pay for.

May be the worst attempt at a flame I've seen on TLS in quite some time. If you're gonna waste yours and other people's time at least try to be original and not so obvious. Sad really.

It's possibly among the top ten Catholic law schools in America. So there's that.

I'm not flaming, just trying to get some honest advice. I know I don't have the stats for a T14 or even Wash U but I'd don't think that should blackball me from the legal profession. I read in US News that SLU has the best healthcare program in the country so it looked like a great opportunity. Don't be elitist, most lawyers didn't go to T14.

Only 10.2% of graduates work at firms with over 100 attorneys or have a federal clerkship that can feed into such a firm or lead them to other beneficial outcomes.
Note that 101 attorneys is not a very large firm, which would explain why only 8.4% of graduates earn over 80k out of school. That 8.4% figure is for the class of 2010, after which the school opted to stop releasing the salaries of their graduates. This could mean that now 90% of the school earns that salary, but it's odd they would stop publishing it if this were the case.
At a 210k estimated cost of attendance, you will be paying back $2,500 dollars a month or roughly 30k a year. So if we assume you are a law school guru and crack the top 8.4% and get 80,000 you will be walking away with about 50k post taxes and if you're looking to repay your loans in 10 years will have 20k a year to live on.
Again, this is if you're one of the best law students there. Statistically with your LSAT, you would have Vegas betting odds of placing below the median. When the best outcome gives you a take home pay which is worse than waiting tables on both a weekly take home and hourly salary you might not say someone is elitist for saying you shouldn't go.
Your logic is a desire to not be poor and miserable during the prime years of your life -> elitist.

No one is saying you have to go to a T14. Going to a regional school can be an objectively good decision at the right price. The problem is that you're no where near the point where a school like SLU would make sense. If you could go for free, that's a different story.

Out of the 204 ABA-accredited law schools, SLU ranks 102 overall.
You can't count to five.
Even if you are telling the truth, it would be best for you not to attend law school unless you want your life story to appear in a Paul Campos book.

How to make a decision on going to law school:
1. If you have rich parents or a lot of money yourself, then cost is irrelevant and go to the best school you can.
2. If you are working class or middle class, unless you have a big (or full) scholarship and/or some other source of funding that covers say 85-90% of the entire cost to go to law school, then seriously consider not going because the financial risk is very high where you will end up with a huge level of student loan debt.
It's not hard to figure out how the law school game is played now - it's skewed towards rich people. If you're not rich, then seriously consider not going.

At the very least, it's among the top 10 law schools in St. Louis.
