For biglaw: UVA or NU?

For the 100+ firm metric at LST, this past year's data on both of these schools is nearly identical, with NU slightly ahead. But the previous year's numbers are much different: 53% (NU) vs 37% (UVA). Salary distribution data for firm jobs is not made available by NU, unlike UVA.

And while employment generally is 20% higher at UVA, up to 15% of that number was hired by the school.

Is UVA an objectively better school?

You should look at large firms + federal clerkships. Everyone with a federal clerkship could have gotten a firm job, or do have one set up for after the clerkship is over.

UVA over the last three years: 61, 48, 62
NU over the last three years: 60, 61, 56

That middle year (class of 2011) was when everyone got clobbered. Most schools saw their numbers fall drastically. NU and Yale were the only two to maintain or improve their numbers in this category.

Looking purely at the numbers, one is not noticeably better than the other.
