Yup, UMN is fucked. 164 median? Is that drop even possible?

I thought the exact same thing when I read this thread >.<
I think they messed up admissions by shooting for 167 at first... then shooting for 166.... then 165....
They should have accepted that the median was going to drop much earlier in the cycle.
Plus the fact they are increasing the class size substantially when apps are down makes me shake my head. NAGL

Op... you should stay home and go to UIUC
Your alternatives are not worth leaving your home market and 50-70k more debt

That epic UMN thread from a little while back should be linked to every post mentioning it.
Also, has any school with a decent LSAT median ever lost three points in one year? Seems implausible, but it would be pretty remarkable if it happened.

The building is not aesthetic, but thats irrelevant to choosing a law school. Prospects, debt, location, and goals are what matter.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a 2 point drop in a fair number of school's medians, 3 would be pretty big.

Yea, UMN is going to take an epic hit.

I got waitlisted in December with a 166 and just withdrew shortly afterwards.
LSN shows that many did the same.

oh and I voted for UIUC. 75% off in-state tuition sounds like a good deal to me

Agreed. But that students had some pretty nasty things to say about the other aspects of UMN (particularly the curriculum and teaching), notwithstanding that the building looks more like a prison than a law school. We already know that getting Biglaw or leaving the area are quite difficult with that degree.

The kid was mad cause he didn't sign up for exam soft in time and had to hand write his exams. That was his sole motivation to rant. The curriculum is the same as any law school and teachers are always hit or miss.
Its 100% his fault for not signing up by the deadline when the school emails everyone 50 times to do it.
Honestly though, I agree that that administrative rule is flawed and don't think he should have had to hand write the exams. I dont believe a student should EVER be forced to hand write an exam. Students are investing basically their whole future into law school. His entire law school career got fucked over because he missed one [albeit extremely important] deadline. That is way too harsh.

Nope.
And how are you getting these numbers? If you're debt-financing everything, BC will leave you with $181K of debt at the start of repayment, UMN will leave you with $139K of debt, and UIUC will leave you with $115 of debt.
Retaking is one of two possible intelligent moves here, the other being not attending law school. If you insist on going to one of these, UIUC is the only real option here. None of these are worth the debt, but that's
way too much debt for BC or UMN.
