Show them TLS and LST? I'm guessing you may have already tried that, though.

Just say "good luck man." People are gonna do what they want, and you'll come off as a douche if you actively try to dissuade him.

If they're planning on matriculating for fall 2013, there is little you can do other than convincing them to drop out if they aren't in the top 5 percent after 1L.

Ask your friend what they plan on doing with their law degree and then show them how nobody at Whittier gets employed in that career path. If your friend says "I want to work solo or start a law firm with 1-9 of my classmates and then proceed to make literally no money".
Also ask them questions about what they plan on doing between graduating and passing the bar. My understanding is that that period is 7-8 months. Really get them thinking about it. If they end up going, it's their problem and not yours.
Avoid "What if you finish in the bottom of the class" and "What if you don't get a job" kinds of questions since people who go to these school normally have special snowflake syndrome and they'll get pissed at you.

Tell him its really easy to lose that whittier scholarship, and then you're totally SOL. I have a friend who started there several years ago and had to drop out during spring of his 1L because he was gonna lose the stips. He then was actually CHARGED for part of his tuition for the second semester, since they claimed he had violated the terms of the scholarship; he then spent the next couple years working as a CPA just to pay off the loans he has to take out to cover the semester he didnt complete at Whittier.
Today hes a somewhat successful accountant/analyst in-house with a known company based in OC. Trying to attend whittier (on "full" scholarship) was the worst decision he ever made.

You should at least tell him to check out LST. Hopefully seeing the 32.1% employment score will dissuade him.
Worst-case scenario: He ignores your advice, doesn't retake, gets DEBT PWNED, and there's one less serious competitor for the rest of us.

Glad I haven't been in this position. If he's a close friend, then you should try to do something. Don't make him feel stupid for his decision, though. Maybe try something like "Be careful, man -- even some of the top schools are struggling to put their grads in good jobs these days." Maybe fib and tell him that you're having second thoughts about law school. As you hand him a copy of Campos' book, say, "I read this book and it opened my eyes / changed my mind / scared the shit out of me," etc. If it seems he can be saved, introduce him to LST and TLS, as appropriate. After that, you've given him all of the information one could need to make an intelligent decision.

I once convinced a kid's parents that attending a TTTT was a bad idea and they ultimately got him to retake and wait a year, likely only because they were going to be paying for some of it. As we all know, convincing boomer parents that attending law school is a bad idea is still a longshot, but if this kid's family is helping him out I expect that he'd at least listen to them. Otherwise, wish him the best of luck and let him know you hope to see him in the UCI transfer class of 2016.

These schools only exist because people are stupid enough to go there. If he can't see why this is a bad idea, I don't see how he will be a good lawyer. Good luck to him.

Every year, Whittier fills its class with students from the most prestigious schools in the world such as Berkeley and UCLA.
If graduates from the most prestigous school (according to lay people in China) attend Whittier, it must be a great school.

whittier is looking up, it used to be not so great, but I think the school now has a high bar passage rate and got everything together. its in a nice area and its professors actually care abt its students, many of them are highly capable and intelligent

That's so nice! Are these highly capable and intelligent professors getting the students jobs?
No?
Then fuck Whittier.
