Top Law Schools

I'm deciding between New York Law School (Full Ride) and Washington & Lee (20k/year scholarship).

I'm at 155/3.5 and I'm a URM (Retaking the LSAT is not an option).

I have been working in New York government for the past 3 years and I have a strong network, family, and I want to work in New York.

However, I'm concerned about having New York Law School on my resume given it's reputation. Is it worth paying the money to go to W&L given its higher rank (although lacking the NYC connection).

Also, I did not apply until after Christmas, do you think my chances would improve if I re-applied on Sep. 1st for next cycle at the likes of Fordham, Cardozo Brooklyn, (maybe even NYU/Columbia; I was waitlisted at Columbia and then rejected)?

You have to retake the LSAT. If you've already taken it three times, then wait until enough time has passed.

Definitely reapply, even if you dont retake. New york ls isnt a real school; Id go for any of the other NYC law schools over it.

Don't go to either of those schools under any circumstances. By far the smartest move would be to retake (and it is definitely an option, since no one is going to shoot you if you retake), but 3.5/155/URM should still give you much better options than these. Important question: what kind of URM?

As for NYLS, it's a complete joke of a school that fails to put even 40% of its grads into full-time, long-term, JD-required jobs within nine months of graduation. We're not just talking about BigLaw here. More than three out of five NYLS grads will not get any actual lawyer job by the last time the school takes count. Also, you cannot consider yourself to have a full ride, because almost 50% of NYLS students lose their scholarships after their first year. You have a one-year full ride and nothing else at this point.

W&L put less than half of its 2012 grads into FT/LT/JD-required work within nine months of graduation. A $20K per year scholarship still sticks you with more than $160K in non-dischargeable debt at repayment. That's utter madness for a school that doesn't even give you a coin's flip chance at a job as a lawyer, much less at a job that will enable you to meet your loan payments.

At first glance, I thought it said you got a full ride to NYU Law School with a 155 and 3.5 lol. My mind was blown at the power of the URM status.

It also seems highly unlikely that someone getting money at W&L doesn't have better NYC options

Looks like this flame and/or liar didn't do a very good job covering his tracks.

I'm a student at another NY school. Do not go to NYLS, to lawyers in the city its a huge joke.
WL is much more respected, if your determined to go next year, go there.
