If you don't retake or reapply, I think Michigan is the obvious choice here considering it's $30,000-40,000 cheaper than the other options and you want to practice in the Midwest or Michigan. I'll let others weigh in on whether you should retake or reapply.

Any of these options would be financial suicide. For these schools to be worth it you need to get at least 100k in aid.

I think that's a bit hyperbolic. But, yes, it's a lot of debt and overall a relatively risky proposition. If you expect your next cycle to go better, it might make sense to reapply.

OP Michigan at that price (scholarship plus your savings) is fine for your goals. Even with a retake, I wouldn't get your hopes up too much for significantly better options than these with the 3.5x. ED to Northwestern might be an option worth considering, but I don't know how competitive you are for the full ride with that GPA.

This is just arbitrary and wrong.

If his COA is 150-185, he has a substantial scholarship.

Your advice is bad and you should feel bad.

OP, Michigan isn't a bad option.

I've been leaning Michigan but am looking for some people to play devils advocate as well here... and I'm sure other people out there making this same (or similar) decision will benefit from the discussion. The main negative I see to Michigan is that employment seems to lag behind most of the T-14 (except for Georgetown). This is the best argument I see for reapplying in hopes of getting Chicago, NYU or Penn.
Wait you got into those schools with a 163? URM? Either way if you just got that 172 this month then you need to reapply broadly next cycle.

Wait a year and reapply. You'll get WE and another year of not being in law school.

Depends on what you're doing right now. If you can stand doing whatever you're doing for another year, you should wait. Worst case scenario is you'll have Michigan at that price again.

Reapply for Chicago or Northwestern with $$. Michigan's had a weird history with folks looking for Chicago. I doubt you'll have difficulty getting back to Michigan, if you want, with a Chicago/Northwestern JD.

What's stopping you from waiting and reapplying, OP? You will get better acceptances and better scholarships if you apply with that new score next year.

Get a job and relax for awhile. Law school will still be there a year from now.

If you hate what you're doing and can't wait to go, though, Michigan seems like a pretty good outcome for your goals.
