Advice on choosing a law school from a practicing lawyer

These are my musings, hopefully they are helpful:

My advice is to go where you want to practice, not the highest ranked one you get into. I know too many people who went somewhere because of a ranking, and now they just want to move back home. You're better off going somewhere local, in the area you want to practice, than relying on what U.S. News and World Report says.

Also, not everyone in small law is miserable or struggling. I started my own practice five years out and it is one of the best decisions I ever made. I'm sure biglaw is great for many, but you couldn't pay me to work for someone else.
