Northwestern ($$) vs Georgetown ($$)
Hi!
I got into Northwestern about an hour ago and they offered me $15k/yr. I am not set on doing BigLaw. I would actually like to begin my career as an ADA, likely in NYC. However, this could very likely change once I am in law school. Having a livable Jewish community is important to me, and I think that DC and Chicago are a wash when it comes to that.
My offers are as follows: Northwestern - $15k/yr and GULC - $20k/yr.
I think DC might have a slightly higher cost of living, but GULC's is about $3k less than Northwestern's each year.
What are the pros and cons of each and where would you all advise me to go?
Thanks!

I would most emphatically chose Northwestern unless you are 110% committed to public interest

Edit: My girlfriend lives in NYC, so that will play somewhat of a role in my decision.
Northwestern is in a very livable area for Orthodox Jews, correct?

If you don't have a dramatic reason to pick GULC over NU, don't.

I would say go to Northwestern but that will all be moot when you randomly get in to Cornell in a couple days and start another thread

Idk, man. Chicago might be to cold several months out of the year to preserve the kosher milky way bars as it was written in the old book. DC has the perfect humidity year round for kosher karamel - pretty convincing to me. GULC it issinfiery wrote:If you don't have a dramatic reason to pick GULC over NU, don't.

Yo FWIW I would have been pretty fuckin bored this week at work if it hadnt been for OPs multiple OPs. Hes still not invited for seder tho. I wouldn't appreciate his condescening faux praise when my matza ball soup wasnt sufficiently "common sense"-hebraic. Too bad ill be leaving the office soon and this loltrain will have to stop cause i got shit to do this wkenddBigZuck wrote:I would say go to Northwestern but that will all be moot when you randomly get in to Cornell in a couple days and start another thread

I can't give you rational advice because you don't have rational concerns.
In case you've been spared the idiocy of those threads, OP said his quality of life would be "hell" if he had to drive five miles to pick up kosher food. This is apparently the most important reason to pick a law school.

If you have to pick one, northwestern and it's not close. I would retake and reapply if I were you just because that's a huge price to pay for a JD.

I would probably have attended NU at 15K/yr if it was my only optionHutz_and_Goodman wrote:If you have to pick one, northwestern and it's not close. I would retake and reapply if I were you just because that's a huge price to pay for a JD.

Also DC and Chicago are both huge cities with many Jewish residents. Kosher food should not even be a factor. Also by the time you graduate you will be snorting coke out of a yarmulke.

Haha! Dude needs to get a tar. Since he didn't go full on kosher in the OP, thought it was just a normal brojbagelboy wrote:Idk, man. Re: Northwestern ($$) vs Georgetown ($$)
It's funny how people are comparing Duke to either of these schools. Duke was in a city with practically nothing Orthodox Jewish, as the people who live there made clear to me. Finding kosher food isn't simple. You can't believe everything you read online. People who live there are the ones reliable. Anyways, Chicago and DC are both big cities and Jewish life isn't a real issue I'm taking into the two of them. Grow up, and don't post a comment if it's not a serious one answering the question.
Thanks!
