Interesting. I think WUSTL is perfectly worth it at that COA. Very good deal in fact.

If your SO gets the job in St Louis, go to WUSTL. I don't think either option is unreasonable considering your goals are midwestern-focused

UT COA (I'm not paying for housing): 103,368 +interest
WUSTL COA: 45,000+interest.

I'm from Texas, have strong ties there (I'm going to be working for a Texas firm over the summer), would like to clerk (UT is better at this), and I'm vaguely interested in Biglaw (UT is better than this). I don't necessarily need to be in Texas after graduation, but I would be a lot happier if I was. My fiance needs to find a job as a Behavior Analyst as well. He has an interview for St. Louis today and he will probably get the job, but he thinks it will be easier to get a better job in his field in Austin.

I personally wouldn't attend UT for that much, but for the sake of answering your question, I believe it's worth the extra ~$58k. My vote is for UT.

I know Romo mentioned in one of the threads that WUSTL kids with ties seem to be able to get back to Texas without much difficulty. According to LST 5% of the 2012 grads went to Texas. But obviously this isn't guaranteed and UT would probably be the safer bet if staying in Texas takes precedence.

100k with interest is a lot of money...but if you get Texas BigLaw then it shouldn't be too hard to pay it off...especially with two incomes. The COL in Texas is much cheaper so your buying power is going to be much higher than your typical NYC associate. Personally I'd choose UT here. Things like PAYE lower the stakes if you strike out.

I have taken the LSAT twice. 167. I don't want to wait a year because that would mean my fiance working for a year and then quitting and moving again. I'm guessing that I will get shit for saying that. I also don't have a good enough job right now to justify waiting a year.

As a 3L, in no way would I take out that same amount of $ for my UT peer school

(unless I had no retakes on the table and was a splitter or something)

Splitter (even though the LSAT isn't fantastic). 3.2/167. I mean it is kind of a miracle that I got into UT

edit: I might also want to add that my parents only paid like 10k total for my UG, I have 0 debt and my fiance has 10k in student debt after a grad program, and I'm pretty sure my parents would help if it means me being in Texas.

That's a steep price for UT but I think it's probably worth it, especially given your numbers. A retake would always help but who knows by how much. My numbers are better than yours and I didn't apply in part because I didn't think I'd get an offer that good from UT. I'd think long and hard about it, but I think $115k is on the cusp of an acceptable amount of risk for a school like UT, especially if you intend to work there.

I think that's a tolerable level of debt for UT. It's what I'm looking at, and I'm happy with my choice (though obviously this is with the benefit of hindsight and having accomplished what I set out to do). Ultimately this comes down to you and the personal factors in your life. How bad do you want TX? Can your SO get a job in Austin?

I don't think picking UT is unreasonable at all, but it is a risk. Good luck.

I agree with this as well, but I don't think UT is worth 70k+ more than WUSTL, even for the Texas market.

And just about everyone I know with strong Texas ties landed Texas from my class, FWIW. I vote for WUSTL here.

I don't think either of these options is that bad, and if it were me I'd take WUSTL due to less debt. I know some people from my school and some from Oklahoma Law who got jobs in Texas, though only one in a decent sized law firm. It's a big state; spend your summers there and you will get something. I vote WUSTL.
