South Carolina or Syracuse?
I am Considering South Carolina or Syracuse
Syracuse all together= ~60,000 a year
South carolina+ ~50,000 a year
I ONLY PLAN ON GOING FOR ONE YEAR--Looking to transfer to a better school right away
I am financing my COA with loans
I am from NJ, went to school in upstate NY, but hate the cold weather. I have also worked extensively in DC
I plan on going into politics
Took LSAT once with zero prep, got a 154...I know, I know I should take it again but I really want to go to school now. Please do not discourage me from both schools, just help me pick the best one!

Best troll I've seen in awhile. Do NOT go to South Carolina unless your grandfather, brother, uncle, or dog is a lawyer there already and has a job for you.

You'll need top grades for this to happen. What will you do if you fail to get those grades?cortland55 wrote: I ONLY PLAN ON GOING FOR ONE YEAR--Looking to transfer to a better school right away
Why do you have to go this year..? Taking the LSAT with zero prep is irresponsible to begin with. Pay your dues and sincerely prep. If you lack the work ethic to study for a 100-question multiple choice exam...then I have my doubts about your ability to get the necessary grades to transfer to a better school.cortland55 wrote:Took LSAT once with zero prep, got a 154...I know, I know I should take it again but I really want to go to school now. Re: South Carolina or Syracuse?
Do you have ties to South Carolina? Their placement is 70% to Syracuse's pitiful 45%, but you won't get anywhere there unless you have ties. South Carolina is very parochial. Likewise, Syracuse places in Central and upstate NY....so do you want to work in South Carolina (don't bother if you don't have ties) or upstate NY?
They are both way too expensive. I wouldn't pay 50K-60K total for either of these schools, let alone for one year - that is totally insane! Why would you pay 60K a year for Syracuse when the median Syracuse student did not even get a legal job???? Why would you pay more for one year of school than your likely starting salary if you manage to get a legal job at all?
You also need to disabuse yourself of the transfer notion. Transferring is a possibility for the top 5-10% of the classes at these schools, but there is no way for you to know whether you will be in the top 5-10%. You have a 5-10% chance of being in the top 5-10% and an even lower chance of being admitted to a school (since not everyone in the top 5-10% gets into a good transfer school). If your law school plan depends on transferring, it is like buying a house if it only had a 5-10% chance of being habitable or a car if it had only a 5-10% chance of running...would you do that?
Transferring in law school is not like transferring in undergrad. There is a very limited number of spots and they are super competitive as many T2/T3/T4 students begin to realized they are in trouble if they don't get out ASAP. It really only makes sense to transfer to a T10 or so school because you will end up paying full price and it is arguable whether even T10 schools are worth full price, let alone a lower-ranked school. In short, transferring is NOT a reasonable plan. If it happens, great, but only attend a school from which you would be satisfied graduating.
The impression I get from your post is that you rushed into this and didn't spend the time you should have preparing for the LSAT and putting your apps together. When did you apply? November is pretty much the latest reasonable time to apply unless you're a 4.0/180 URM. You don't want to hear it but you absolutely need to retake and reapply and get some better options. With a 160 you could get much bigger scholarships to these schools. Do not rush into school and be one of the suckers who pays six figures for a T2.

Also you apparently withdrew from SC on April 6th and announced you're attending Catholic with a 156 LSAT score so..... THAT.
