Final offers. Free at UCLA vs Duke, Berkeley, NYU
I think I've exhausted my negotiating. Have to make the decision by Wednesday. Total COAs assuming no money in the summers and without interest:
UCLA: 60k
Duke: 140k
Berkeley: 140k
NYU: 235k
Also WL at Harvard and Stanford. But I already talked to financial aid officers at both and I won't see a dime from them. I assume TLS wisdom would say go and pay sticker anyways.
I want biglaw or perhaps a clerkship followed by biglaw. Region isn't super important, I think I could learn to love just about anywhere. I'll go wherever the best job opportunity is, including back here to Texas. That wasn't me expressing a preference for Texas, but I'd be fine if I ended up back close to my family.

I'd take Duke or Berkeley based on where you'd prefer to work.

Just as the quoted text says: Berkeley if you want WC, Duke if you want EC/South.

I would go to H or S @ sticker followed by Berk/Duke followed by UCLA. NYU is out IMO. I think Duke gives you slight edge for biglaw and Berk gives you slight edge for clerkships but the difference is negligible. Berk if you prefer CA and Duke if you prefer NY.

Berkeley it is then. I think the bay area will be more fun than NC. And CA more than NY.

Good God lol. I'm asking for advice, obviously theres more subjective factors that perhaps others know more about than I do. Ive never been to NC, maybe people can tell me its amazing. My debt averse side still tells me I should think about UCLA. But I wanted some honest opinions on the quality(in all aspects, not just future jobs) vs cost here.Mal Reynolds wrote:Be an adult and make a decision.katch wrote:lol so how about a preference between Duke and Berkeley?

Berkeley. Location aside, better school than Duke if same price IMO.

Oh you. Lol I tried. They wouldn't budge. They still thought they were giving me a better deal with half tuition even with UCLA being tuition free. They must think very highly of themselves.BigZuck wrote:Of these 4, I vote UT

Im glad you posted that! Kind of crappy that they interviewed during the APALA event, sort of distorts the sample. But I cant decide if the purple hatted Asian was a pro or a con..... Anyways, when I visited, I was a huge fan of the chill atmosphere. And he mentions the building being outdated but it was the highest quality physical building out of UT, UCLA, USC, and dare I say it, Stanford. Perhaps the video was made before the recent renovations. Also, every single one of the Stanford students I talked to thought that Berkeley was a better physical location. I guess the South Bay is pretty dry and boring.Grazzhoppa wrote:Berkeley. But watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWya-liCcLE before you go just to be sure.

I know who purple hat man is (had a very visible fashion sense). He graduated in 2011, so that video is a little old. They also can't spell Boalt right...WTF?katch wrote:Im glad you posted that! The bulding is way nicer than it once was although it's super easy to get lost in it.

Why is nobody selecting UCLA. It seems to be a solid value at that price. Is Berkeley really a 80k better investment?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
