Texas / Stanford / NYU / Harvard

Post by josise24 » Sun Apr 21, 2013 1:34 pm

Amounts next to each school reflect scholarship / grant amount per year:

Texas (full)
Stanford ($15)
NYU (full / full / half)
Harvard (?)

URM with finance WE. Interested in biglaw for a 3 - 5 years, followed by in-house. Somewhat debt-averse. Strong ties to Texas, but no real preference regarding working there long-term. Not incredibly enthusiastic about living in NYC, but have some professional ties to the area.

Thanks in advance for the input!

Harvard or Stanford depending on your geographic preferences. Would you prefer to work in Cali or East Coast?

No NYU if you don't want to live/work in NYC.

No Texas because you're in at H and S.

post the total COA but NYU and Stanford are the best options. If you don't want NYC at all, S is the way to go. But since you're not really interested in the things where HYS give you a distinct advantage, and you have an extremely strong shot at biglaw out of NYU (given your URM status and more importantly, WE) you'll probably be making the better decision going here given the debt difference and likely the same outcome.

Once UT is removed from the equation, I don't think OP can make a bad choice. Have you visited all 3? Where do you think you'll enjoy studying the most?

Personally, NYU for close to free would be hard to turn away from.

voted SLS, but NYU is defensible. I know someone who took Stanford full price over RTK @ NYU and it they felt it was justifiable. Since both are such good options, from a personal standpoint, where do you want to be? and how much debt do you want to pay off? For what its worth, I think NYU beats Harvard @ $0 here if you decide east coast.

I vote for the "anything but Texas" option. It really is about what you want to do and where you want to live.

Congratulations on life, by the way.
