Yeah in terms of quality of life UCD is down there with merced and riverside. And the few things that make ucd fun for undergrads won't really be available to you as a grad student

If you scored a few more points, you could get into at least USC, UCLA or UT. That would my goal. Your GPA is high enough that a 166-167ish would probably tempt them into admitting you.

Omg, all this Davis hate is clearly an exaggeration. I remember thinking Davis was uncool, when I was 18 and didn't know shit. Seriously, get off your butt, find all the awesome places and partake in the never ending stream of events, and it's a fantastic city.
Grad students have a huge presence here as well and SF is also just a 90 minute drive if that's your thing.

Re: Need to Pick Today
I've been to Davis. The only thing going for it is its small downtown. The bars are OK. The movie theatre is OK. The restaurants are OK. Really there is nothing spectacular there, except it's really safe. Oh wait, an elderly couple got killed last night.
Oh and 90 miles. I'm very concerned about my carbon footprint and would not drive 90 miles to a city filled with hipsters, tree huggers, and fog.

"I've been to Davis"
Great for you. I've lived here for 5 years. The people are fantastic, extremely nice, outgoing, smart and generally good people. Obviously, it's specific infrastructure is not as good as a bigger city, but I don't just cities based on the quality of its movie theatre.

That, unfortunately, is true. Sac town has some spots though and the improv comedy in Davis is surprisingly strong (based on the college group which rules).Cobretti wrote:i hear the standup circuit is WEAKMicdiddy wrote:"I've been to Davis"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't you been from Oakland to Sactown, the Bay Area and back down?Dr. Dre wrote:I've been to Davis.

UCD> Riverside > Merced, but yeah, same sentiment. I'd actually prefer Yu See Eye to Davis (for the location, not the law school). Both boring towns, but at least in Irvine, you can drive one hour in any direction and reach someplace worth going to. LA is only an hour away. SD is a little over an hour away. Beaches everywhere. The summer experience was actually better at Yu See Eye than at $C.ChampagnePapi wrote:Yeah in terms of quality of life UCD is down there with merced and riverside. Utah all the way. I can't believe that they literally have the same % employed down to the tenth percent: 60.4%. Neither will give you a good shot at corporate litigation. Yes, Davis will open up CA more but mainly really Sacramento (and, yes, San Fran but you're behind Stanford, Berkeley, T14 grads, and possibly Hastings as well as top 10%ers from USF, Santa Clara, etc) which is not that great.
