-NYU COA at about 240k
-Michigan COA w/ scholarship about 150k
-gpa 3.63/lsat 171
-from new york, want to do big law in NYC
-taken the lsat once
-will be paying through loans

Do you have any options between these two schools? Penn? UVA?

NYU has +17% chance at biglaw, but $250k is a ridiculous sum of money.

Have you tried using the scholarship from Michigan to get money from NYU?

Gun to head, Michigan, but neither one is great.

Both of those schools will cost more than that btw


I think you're in a situation where you'll be in so much debt with either option you'll need biglaw to pay it off so I would pick NYU (along with your NYC goals but that is secondary)


Unless you have money from parents or savings, your COA is approx:
290k at NYU
and 171k at UMich

This. Also OP, since you have taken the LSAT only once, I think a retake and reapply is in order here, as with a few more points (173+), you could get more money, or possibly land H, which does need-based aid.

attempted to use mich scholarship to negotiate with NYU they said no to my appeal. re-taking isn't really an option for me, coming out of undergrad with no job lined up can't afford to be out of work/school for a year.

H is very unlikely and the GPA holds them from substantial money at most schools.

I don't think MVPBDNCG care much about a 171 vs a 173 when considering scholarship offers. Maybe a little bit, but not much.


A 178+ might really get you some substantial money at NYU from what I've seen this cycle though

Yep I agree with retake. Op, check my cycle, only two points more than you on LSAT and worse GPA. Didn't get into NYU but if they already want you this year, more points will likely mean $$ next year (and Mich at 90k is much easier to stomach than 67.5).

Michigan. Top 15% at either school will get you the same opportunities. Just not worth the increased price. Columbia would be a different story but not NYU.

Deposit at Mich.

Take the June LSAT. If you score 176+ reapply. If not, go to Mich.

You're going to split no matter what your LSAT score and above median is above median. Unless you are gunning for CC and longshot at H it's just not worth it to take a whole extra year.
