Targeting Markets

Admitted to uva but would like to end up in California. No ties in the legal field to the west, but I have personal and family connections. Firstly, is uva a better choice than UCLA and down in ca for ca? Secondly, what strategies are recommended for making ties to a market during 1L and 2L? Thanks, all!

California is less like Texas and the South in needing strict ties (Texas markets usually have an "old boy" network for graduates of UT, Rice, ect.). Express interest and get involved in start-ups, technology, ect. as much as you can and network based on this interest.
