Above 3.70 and a good score might still get you decent $ at a T14. The negatives are almost zero if you still have a job and won't be dawdling for a year, and it might save you tens of thousands of dollars. Check out the LSAT prep forum.Ned Racine wrote:Thanks, but let me amend. It's very high for EE, above 3.70 but below median for almost all schools I applied to.WokeUpInACar wrote:If these are your options with a very high EE GPA from a good school, you absolutely need to retake the LSAT.
I've taken the LSAT twice with very diligent prep for the second attempt, and am confident I've topped out. If you want to know my full range of choices, I have UT Austin at sticker, Waitlisted at Georgetown and Cornell, and still waiting (unbelievably) to hear from Duke, Vandy, and Michigan. At this point in my cycle, I'm considering my options as GW and UGA.
I can't speak to patent law specifically but UGA still gives you a decent shot at biglaw in Atlanta, provided good performance during law school. With a strong undergrad background in electrical engineering, and with any luck solid performance in LS, I would think you have a fairly good shot at biglaw IP work in Atlanta from UGA (considering your ties as well) or elsewhere from GW. I think the numbers on LST are something like 11.4% biglaw, with most of that presumably being in Atlanta vs. 17% at GW but at $100k more (side note: is there something about patent law at GW that is particularly appealing that I am not aware of?). Anyway, UGA at very low cost is a pretty low risk option. I would bet you'll get money from Emory later in the cycle too (same thing happened for me during last year's cycle) but I would argue that it is not a substantially better option than UGA for Atlanta, also maybe some money from Emory could help in leveraging more from UGA and GW.Ned Racine wrote:Thanks timbs. I know you hear this all the time, but I really don't think I will improve on a retake. I utilized the prep info on these forums heavily back when I was studying and scored just below where I was practicing. I travel for work and work long days, so had to prep at night in a hotel over several months which was hell. With that said, I'm not going to retake.
Would UGA with $$$ not be a good bet for ATL patent big law with my background and ties?
Well, if you really have to go this year, Georgia >>>>>>>>>>>> 280K at GW. 80k is on the high end of what I'd pay for Georgia but still within reason. 280 is almost 3x as much as I'd pay for GW.Ned Racine wrote:Thanks timbs.
